Locals know it as one of the places serving up the best breakfast in the Northern Beaches, and while city slickers may think the journey too far, they’re dead wrong and in for a treat. The best part is, The Armchair Collective is practically on the beach, so it’s the perfect spot for a pre, mid or post swim chow down.
Welcome to The Armchair Collective, a place where you can enjoy a fresh, healthy breakfast while eyeing off some gorgeous pieces for your home and maybe even getting some advice on your upcoming interior design project.
If it’s breakfast you’re after, the menu has a bit of everything, from the healthy to the downright sinful. Our saintly side opted for a cold pressed green juice that was perfectly balanced, refreshing and went down a treat. With the healthy stuff out of the way, the grilled haloumi cheese stack was calling our name; it came with two perfectly drizzly poached eggs, baby spinach and pesto on Turkish toast and we spent every last second we had mopping up the extra bits. Of course, the baked eggs should be commended for their sheer ability to make us drool; sitting in front of us all tempting with its spicy new England baked beans, chorizo, cherry tomatoes and some crusty bread on the side.
If lunch is more your jam, there are plenty of options from the light to the mighty. The soft shell crab burger will satisfy your cravings for a crunchy-but-soft and lightly spicy meal, and the thick cut chips are that holy grail type; perfectly crispy on the outside with pillowy soft and piping hot potato in the middle. Need something a little healthier? The armchair salad with roasted beetroot, quinoa, goats cheese, pine nuts and an addictive honey mustard dressing will have your insides singing your praises and obviously makes up from the chips you pilfered off your mate’s plate (or was that just us?).
After you’re finished chowing down, be sure to wander around the store and marvel at the rustic and stylish products on display. We picked up some gorgeously colourful napkins and made a mental note to return for the inflatable rubber duck. If you’re in the market for something bigger, the name says it all: armchairs with bright, modern colours are on offer for those looking to splash out.
And speaking of splashing, hightailing it to Mona Vale beach is an absolute must and is the ideal way to cap off the experience whether you’re a local or making a day trip out of it.
