What’s the best thing about December? Some might say it’s the Christmas lights, others might say it’s the Christmas Day feasting—we say it’s the excuse to stuff our faces with festive-themed sweet treats while promising ourselves we’ll work it off in January.
On that note, here’s all the festive treats that you should eat your way through at Brisbane bakeries, cafes and chocolate shops this silly season.
We’ll take any new doughnut flavour that Nodo dreams up, but when they come Christmas spiced with a gingerbread star on top? Make that a six pack, thanks. There’s two festive delights to choose from this year, with a choc mint fudge doughnut topped with candy cane snow in the cabinets along with the Christmas star doughnuts.
If you thought fruit mince pies were the only Christmas-themed pies you could get, think again. Pie Town is dishing up not one, not two, but 12 pies of Christmas, right up until the 24th. On the menu, you’ll find Gingerbread Pie, Sweet Cherry Pie, Peach Crumble Pie, Eggnog Pie, Candy Cane Peppermint Pie and others, along with their savoury cousins.
I Heart Brownies
Yes, even brownies have had a Christmas makeover. I Heart Brownies have gone and packed their gluten-free babies with fresh cherries, to give you the sweet taste of summer. You’ll buy a box planning to take them to your next festive gathering—and then end up eating them all before you even get there.
New Farm Confectionery
New Farm, Chermside and Brisbane Airport
Plastic baubles on the Christmas tree are so dull—swap them out for edible ones instead. New Farm Confectionery have created marbled chocolate versions, ready to hang (or just eat while you decorate). Get in quick for these bad boys, because there’s only limited stock available.
While they also do a seriously adorable gingerbread house, it’s Dello Mano’s perfectly shaped and stacked gingerbread star Christmas trees that have us hitting the ‘order now’ button. Hot tip: Start eating from the bottom and no one will notice their tree is slightly smaller than it should be—maybe.
Marche du Macaron
‘Tis the season for Christmas macarons and we couldn’t be more excited. Head to Marche du Macron this month and you’ll find the soft and crunch worthy biscuits in flavours like Christmas pudding, candy cane, gingerbread, eggnog and popping candy.
Fortitude Valley, Albion and Camp Hill
Jocelyn’s has an array of Christmas treats ready to take back to the office to sweeten up your afternoon tea table, but their Christmas bark is a winner in our books. Don’t let us stop you ordering one of everything though—check out the range here.
Cake & Bake
If you’re after the best Christmas tarts in town, Cake & Bake deserves a visit. Golden pastry, sweet fruity filling and a perfect pastry star on top with a dusting of icing sugar mean you’ll be going back for a second box within the week.
Flour & Chocolate
Flour & Chocolate regulars know to start scouring their Facebook page for specials from 1 December, and as usual, this year they’re delivering the goods. So far there’s been double baked candy cane croissants, candy cane custard eclairs, gingerbread donuts and a candy cane gonut—what will it be next?
