As winter creeps closer and the days get shorter, we could all do with a little brightening up, maybe even a cheeky getaway. And we’ve just received word of a little something that could do the trick! Introducing Light Nelson to your radar; the dazzling light festival across the (literal) pond that will take your breath away.
The five-day festival in Nelson, New Zealand is back for its 4th biennial celebration of light installations from local and international artists like the creative minds of Jon Baxter and Vincent Ward. The free event has displays ranging from the one-person-at-a-time Dr. Who tardis, to tea-light candlelit duck ponds, to huge multi-storeyed visual projections throughout Queen’s Gardens for you to explore. Of course there will also be food vendors in the central hub on Hardy Street for you to satisfy your taste buds too.
Mark the 6th-10th July on your calendars for a quick autumn break to NZ and don’t worry about the cold; you’ll forget all about it when you’re wandering through the shining gardens. So prepare to be dazzled, Light Nelson is going to be perfect for a family hang, or a romantic few days away… and what an excuse for a mid-winter getaway!
