Bibliophiles, it's time to quit your day job, pack your bags and head on over to the Maldives because they have the absolute dream job waiting for you. Book shop owner Philip Blackwell is on the look-out for a bookworm to spread their love for literature at the luxury eco-resort of Sonvea Fushi in the Maldives. Yup, you can get paid to read books while living the high life at a desert island resort, what more could you as more?
“The pay is derisory but the fringe benefits unparalleled,” Blackwell told The Guardian. “The role will evolve and it is in part up to you to make the most of this unique opportunity. It’s a dream job for many people. If I was 25 again I would do it.”
All you need is a genuine passion for books and the skills to share it with the guests at the resort through hosting creative writing courses and sessions of story-telling. Just to make the job more stressful, you’ll also be required to write a blog about the life of being a desert island bookseller and mingle with A-list celebrities and their friends. Relaxing, reading, writing, meeting elite figures and sharing stories, it’s just all too much!
Thankfully, you get to stay at one of the villas that have a value of at least $2,000 for a night where you also get your own swimming pool, spa, sauna and steam room to destress. When not unwinding in your mini-mansion, you’ll be at the remote bookshop where they stock a mix of books and it’s your duty to read them!
