Porridge is one of those simple pleasures that we just can't get enough of during winter, and thankfully many of our favourite Brisbane cafes are on board the rolled oats bandwagon. If you're anything like Goldilocks, we figure you're pretty picky when it comes to your porridge. This winter, forget your microwave quick oats, go for something more gourmet.

Ideally positioned for an inner-city breakfast on the run, Roaslie's Pasta Pantry serves up a completely moreish gluten-free porridge made from everybody's fave super food, quinoa! Served with the timeless porridge additions of brown sugar, berry compote, cinnamon, and, of course, warm milk, this is a new-age, lighter twist on your classic porridge recipe, and we're big fans.
West End café Plenty do a heavenly, creamy porridge with poached rhubarb and Barambah yoghurt. This Brisbane cafes does pretty much everything well, so you can bet your breakfast this porridge will make your morning.
Mondo's spiced rolled rice and date porridge, with poached pear and warmed coconut milk is the Papa Bear of the porridge world. Hearty, warming, and just the thing on a cold winter's morning. Plus, it's gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.
A breakfast in the winter sunshine at Balfour is pretty much as good as it gets. Throw their oat and quinoa porridge into the mix — it's served with sour cherries, caramelized apple, and sugared pistachio, then finished off with pouring cream — and you're in winter breakfast heaven. One for serious porridge fans, this ultra-rich Brisbane breakfast takes porridge to another level.
PJ's porridge is back! But don't let the simple oat-y base fool you, this baby is anything but plain. The porridge at Brisbane cafe and restaurant Harveys, is topped off with a decadent sprinkle of rhubarb and spiced nuts, it's enough to make your brown sugar toppings seem a little ho hum, don't you think?
To put it plainly, it comes across as more of a breakfast pudding than it does porridge, but who's complaining? With a sublimely creamy texture featuring coconut and chia seeds, with quince delicately placed atop, this marvelous Pearl creation is a must-try this winter!

Buzz's porridge is a simple and effective winter breakfast if I ever did see one. Filled with raisins and drizzled with maple syrup, it takes porridge back to basics. And it's good.
Sourced regulars hang out every winter for the return of this organic grocer's superb porridge. And why wouldn't they? Take advantage of the morning rays and indulge in a bowl of this Brisbane café's organic oat porridge, topped with hazlenut and vanilla bean crumb, poached rhubarb, Maleny Dairies guernsey cream and micro-lemon balm. Yes please!
Ok, so if you're a fan of the traditional porridge, but want to get a little experimental with your oats? Depo is for you! Despite the lack of actual oats in this particular recipe, Depo's super food porridge, made from quinoa, topped with coconut, berries, and kiwi fruit, is to die for.
Just down the road from our office (prime location or what?) is Symposium Cafè. Included in their all day breakfast-meets-lunch menu is their divine sticky fig porridge made with chunky rolled oats, served with crushed walnuts, honey, and sweet spices, dusted with warming cinnamon and nutmeg. Yummm.
Five Sister's Art House Café
Nestled down a laneway in South Brisbane, Five Sister's Art House Café is serving up delicious Greek treats this winter, including their warm wintery porridge option. Drop in to this Brisbane café and sample their milky oats topped with fresh bananas, apple, honeydew, rockmelon, cinnamon and honey. Fruity! And for those of us who are a little pedantic when it comes to milk choices, the team at Five Sister's have Zymil, soy, and almond milk on hand to complement your porridge.
