News of a new gelato shop opening one minute's walk from our office was like music to our dessert loving ears, so when authentic Italian gelateria, La Macelleria, opened their doors in Teneriffe today, you know we were there with spoons poised.
Fans of traditional gelato will love La Macelleria, which has a focus on tried-and-tested Italian gelato flavours (with a few Australiana variations thrown in for good measure). This is not the place to come for a cone of red velvet ice cream with donut mix ins.
The gelato at La Macelleria is lovingly handmade on site, with an open-style kitchen that allows you to feel part of the whole delicious process. Owners, Matteo and Matteo (yes, they're both called Matteo — we know, it's too cute to be true) are trained by Italian Gelato Masters, and hail from Bologna, Italy's gelato ground zero.
As well as the aforementioned gelato (in both classic and speciali flavours), La Macelleria makes sorbet, gelato cakes, affogato gelato sticks to melt into your espresso, and gelato shakes.
