Man Servings | On the Hunt for Brisbane’s Biggest Meal

Forget ladies who lunch and push aside those green salads and plates of sashimi. We're in search of lunches to satisfy the larger appetite. Big servings, dishes with oomph, packed with gusto, and all served without a high price tag.

The QA Hotel

From Monday to Friday, sit down to one of their 'executive lunch' specials. There are several options, and at $12 they're a real steal considering the huge size of the servings. All will send you back to the office content and ready to tackle the afternoon's to-dos, but our pick's the 200gm steak with the usual trimmings. What's more, for an additional $3 you can add a soup as an appetizer.

New Farm Deli and Cafe

Such an institution and deservedly so. The pastas are prolific (be sure to tuck your tie into your shirt to guard against a surprise saucy spillage) and the rolls are packed with good things like meatballs and cured meats.

AJ's Vietnamese Noodle House

A stalwart in the CBD. There's a reason for the lines that file out the door during service. The majority of dishes sit under $10, and everyone knows the beef pho (the spicy version is fast approaching cult status) is one of the city's best. It promises oodles of noodles as do the vermicelli noodle bowls.

Golden BBQ

The exterior might put you off, and while the insides are particularly basic, for around the $12 mark you can pick up a solid serving of crispy duck or roast pork with rice. The steamed chicken with a delightful salty ginger condiment hits the spot, as well.

Pronto Bucci

Their 'porchetta americano' on panino (or piada should you favour a flat bread) is packed with pulled pork, aged provolone cheese, and cabbage, which, when toasted, combines to create a gloriously oozy and slightly salted centre. At $9.50 it's is a real stalwart among the m-iners (man diners) on James Street.

Got a tasty, hearty pick you love during the 9 to 5? Do share!
