Fresh, pungent truffles: delicious on pizzas, freshly made pasta and now, it turns out, gelato. That’s right, those experimental geniuses over at Gelato Messina have come up with a brand new way to excite your taste buds, and it involves an ingredient usually reserved for savoury eats—but no longer.
From 1 July, head in to one of the participating branches of everyone’s favourite gelato masters and you can get freshly shaved truffle sprinkled over any flavour of gelato you like, in a cup or a cone. The Messina gang suggest salted caramel with white choc, dulce de leche, hazelnut or chocolate based flavours will pair best with the rich truffle, but hey, we’re not here to judge if you want it shaved over your Apple Pie or Hokey Pokey. You do you, friend.
In Brisbane, you can get the decadent special at the Fortitude Valley store, but the fresh funghi will also be available at stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, with three grams of truffle going for $6 a serve. Be quick though, because once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Get all the details and start researching which flavour of gelato you’ll try pairing it with first here.
