It’s safe to say that 2015 was pretty much the year of the donut. We’re going to call it early and predict that ice cream sandwiches are going to be the insta-food trend that takes Brisbane by storm in 2016.
Opening late last year, in Fortitude Valley and South Bank, Mister Fitz is the brainchild of Damian Griffiths, owner of your favourite dessert havens, Chester Street Bakery and Doughnut Time; can the man put a foot wrong?
Stepping into Mister Fitz is like taking a step back in time to the 1950’s. With pink, blue and white décor, this American style ice cream parlour is dedicated to epic ice cream sandwiches, delicious hand-made ice cream and insta-worthy milkshakes. Mister Fitz blasts beats and dishes up it’s delectable treats 7 days a week from 10am until late so they are always on hand when the ice cream cravings strike.
Mister Fitz’s main attraction is definitely the ice cream sandwich and anything that allows you to ‘build your own’ is always a winner in our eyes. First pick your top and bottom layer cookies, next your hand made ice cream flavour and finally your toppings.
Playing it safe on my first trip to Mister Fitz, I went with M&M Cookies for the bread, ‘more bounce to the ounce’ – milk and cookies as the butter and sprinkled nuts on top. On a return visit, yes, I am a repeat offender, I made a bold move and sampled the blue moon cookie monster ice cream with unicorn crumbs on top. Whoever came up with these names is a genius! After reading those descriptions, do I really need to tell you how they tasted? Delicious! Word of warning though, definitely get yourself a spoon as these bad boys are pretty hard to handle.
If you’re not feeling adventurous or super hungry, (but seriously use that dessert stomach on those ice cream sandwiches) sample a single scoop of their house churned ice cream or a cup of their famous soft serve.
I’ll be back soon to try out their signature milkshakes. The Gold Digger; banana, brown sugar and bacon ice cream, whipped cream, candied bacon, crushed crisps and salted carmel drizzle, is definitely calling my name!
