Domestic and sexual violence is more than a problem, it’s a pandemic. In Australia alone, intimate partner violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and ill-health in women aged 15 to 44. This rankles us no end, and we aren’t the only ones.
A collective of Australia’s leading female-identifying tattoo artists are banding together for a day of flash tattooing to raise money for women in need. Aptly dubbed ‘Not Just a Girl’ the day-long event will see each artist design a sheet of original tattoos for patrons to choose from. Simply pick a design, roll up your sleeve, and presto: fresh ink and some help to those in need. Tattoo prices range from $150 to $500, and you can get an idea of what to expect from each artist by checking out their Instagram page.
All profits from the day will flow directly back to these chosen charities: The Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre, the Stars Foundation, and the Full Stop Foundation, which all do invaluable work helping women enduring hardship. And if you don’t fancy some ink/have run out of viable space, you can still help by stocking up on some merch, art or prints, which will be available for purchase. You could even drop off some donations like sanitary items, non-perishable food products, and clothing, which will be passed on to local charities at the end of the day.
Hot tip: this is a cash only event so hit up the ATM before stopping by.
