While it’s true that our twisting river isn’t the most awe-inspiring, there’s at least one time of year when we truly appreciate and celebrate the old brown snake that cuts our city in two, and that’s Riverfire, the epic culmination to Brisbane Festival in September every year.
But, not content with only lighting up our more-brown-than-blue river only one night of the year, Brisbane Festival is once again unleashing a spectacular light show on the banks of the city and South Bank, bringing back River of Light for its second year in a row.
Launching from day one of the month-long arts, music and culture festival taking over our fair city from 6 September, the light and laser spectacular combines art with technology for a show that will ignite the river in front of Treasury Brisbane Arcadia on South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt.
Free to watch, the show will happen several times a night, every evening until 28 September, telling a Dreamtime creation story of the river using psychedelic lasers, giant jets of water and spirals of light so vibrant you won’t even be able to tell what shade the river is.
No tickets needed for this one, just get yourself down to the grass after dark one night over the course of the festival and prepare to get lit up. While we’re on the subject of tickets though, you should definitely hit the book button on the Fire Gardens and 1000 Doors, two of Brisbane Festival's other epic events.
