If you’ve been hitting the plastic recently, you might want to avoid this one. For everyone else, get ready to splash all of the cash.
Shop BNE City's epic 12-hour fashion event is taking over the CBD on Friday. This is the event’s third year running.
Here’s what’s going to happen. For 12 hours on Friday 24 May, Queen Street Mall will look as though a glitter bomb has gone off. There’s going to be runway shows, exclusive giveaways, street performers, live tunes and a ‘Cloud 9’ installation at The Myer Centre, which we’re told involves a hot air balloon and humungous paper aeroplane. Sheesh.
Of course, shops up and down Queen Street Mall will be running special deals from 9am to 9pm as well. Expect huge discounts at recently opened Dior and Saint Laurent, plus the spanking new COS store.
So what’s in vogue this year? According to Fashion Director, Christie Sutherland, combat boots are making a comeback. This affects my life in no way at all.
“The key winter fashion looks you will be seeing under the stars and on the runway range from fluffy coats to combat boots, the return of the tote, loose suiting and cornflower blue from Brisbane’s shopping power players The Myer Centre, QueensPlaza and Wintergarden,” she says.
The event runs till 9pm tomorrow, and event organisers have a few special tricks lined up for after-dark. The Myer Centre will also be slinging free bespoke dughnuts from DoughnutTime for the first 500 people to splash $50 at the sales.
Need more? Wintergarden are running a Beauty Vending Machine and a dedicated Glitter Lounge (where you can add a questionable amount of sparkle to your face, no questions asked).
Needless to say, if you find frenzied, bargain-driven crowds an issue, give this one a wide berth. For everyone else, head down to Queen Street Mall and burn a hole in your wallet.
Mysteriously broke afer Friday? No worries—we found a joint doing $1 tacos on Saturdays.
