Sam Poggioli, aka Sampology, is an audiovisual DJ who is blowing up da clubs around Australia right now. 'What is an audiovisual DJ?', I hear you ask? Sam not only mixes music, but also visual tracks, which are displayed on a giant screen behind him as he lays down the tunes. It's not uncommon to be watching Bruce Willis shoot lasers out of his eyes while listening to Beyoncè at a Sampology show. We caught up with Sam to find out what he's got planned for the rest of 2013 (and he's also put together a killer TGIF Mixtape. Legend.)
TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?
As an audio visual DJ I jump on stage in front of groups of people to control the sound system, plus visuals on a really big screen behind me, via equipment in front of me, in as stimulating a way as possible.
TUL: What are you working on at the moment?
Right now I'm editing a stack of vocal takes for a group of new original tracks I'm producing.
TUL: How would you describe your music style?
TUL: Which band or artist is dominating your speakers at the moment?
Kirkis, a Melbourne musician/ band sent me his upcoming album release as one long audio track, it's crazy and out there, in the best possible way.
TUL: Best gig you've ever been to?
Stevie Wonder about 4 years ago in Brisbane, I've never been to a show that's affected me in that way before.
TUL: Best way to spend $50?
Buy $50 worth of Milo and milk, mix in a large bowl, and then eat.
TUL: Best way to spend $500?
Buy $500 worth of Milo and milk, mix in a bath tub, and jump in.
TUL: Best spot for a drink?
Archive, West End.
TUL: Best spot for dinner?
Villa Maria, Coorparoo.
TUL: Best spot for a coffee?
Café O Mai, Annerley.
TUL: What's next for you?
Finishing off my Stimulation Audio Visual Tour in Australia, going to LA for a couple of shows and some meetings there early next month. Releasing more of my music. Travelling to India for my first shows there, and buy as many Bollywood 12 inches as I can.
Sampology has put together an absolute burner of a Friday mixtape. So many genres, so little time! (FYI - bad word alert for a couple of songs)
