TGIF Mixtape | Curated by Violent Green

By Phil Swan - 27 Sep 2013

Violent Green in Elizabeth Arcade has been decking out Brisbane's scenesters and fashionistas from head-to-toe for nearly 10 years (that's a century in retail years!). Their key to success has been evolving with the times, while remaining true to their unique VG style. We caught up with Simon earlier this week to talk shop, and he's also put together an awesome TGIF Mixtape for your audial enjoyment.

TUL: Tell us in one sentence what you do for work.
I help run the Violent Green stores, so all of our lovely customers can have a happy shopping experience.

TUL: What is your favourite brand in store, and why?
Wow, that's a tough one, as I love all of our labels. They're all unique in their own way. But I'd say right now I'm loving what Soulland are offering for menswear. It's nice and clean with some subtle detailing (embroidery, fabrications, etc). And on the opposite spectrum, Emma Mulholland is blowing up big time. Keep an eye on this name.

(Oh, we are Simon, check out our recent interview here).

TUL: What do you get up to when you're not working at Violent Green?
I'm pretty boring nowadays! Hahah. I like to hang out with my wife and dogs, go for a skate or hit the beach. Also chilling out with my friends.

TUL: Up for a big night, where do you go for a drink?
I'm really loving The End in West End. Might even hit it up this weekend.

TUL: Best hangover cure after a night out?
Hair of the dog! Bloody Marys I say!

TUL: Where do you take a girl to impress her?
I just cook a meal at home.

TUL: What's the last gig you went to?
Sheesh, I've been really slack on live music lately. Last band I saw was OFF! when they played at the Zoo. I like small gigs.

TUL: You've got $50 left, what are you spending it on?
Roulette and a bowl of pho.

TUL: What's your most played song on iTunes?
Iggy and the Stooges, 'Gimme Danger'.

TUL: What song do you turn up when you're alone, but too embarrassed to play in front of anyone else?
I've got a whole playlist of embarrassing songs and I love it! But I'd probably say The Hooters, 'And We Danced'.

There's nothing embarrassing about this mixtape Simon put together for us. Treat your earholes!
