We've had a major cirl-crush on Katie Noonan for years, and it's not just because she can sing like anything. Just like us, she loves a good book, chilling out at a day spa, and great food. You can catch Katie and her band, Elixir at the Noosa Jazz Festival, on from Thursday the 29th of August to Sunday the 1st of September.
TUL: What can we expect from your headline act with Elixir this Noosa Jazz Festival?
With Elixir we try to create an intimate musical world - a chance to disappear from the world for a little while. My band mates Stephen Magnusson and Zac Hurren are incredible musicians so I am very lucky.
TUL: Which other bands are you most excited to see at the festival?
Well I always love The Idea of North—they are fantastic! I also love James Valentine's gorgeous tenor sound, and my lovely friend Leigh Carriage is always beautiful and soulful.
TUL: What do you love about Noosa?
The ocean, the air, the amazing bushwalks and the food!
TUL: What's your music background? How did you get started?
I started in opera then fell in love with the freedom of jazz and changed to a bachelor of jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Also I had a crush on a sexy saxophonist in the course (my husband and elixir bandmate Zac Hurren!) so that may have influenced my decision somewhat!
TUL: What's your ideal holiday destination?
Fiji for a gorgeous place for a family holiday. If no children are involved, I would say Paris or New York!
TUL: What's the best gig you've ever been to?
Jeff Buckley live in 1996 — truly incredible.
TUL: Where's your favourite restaurant?
TUL: Where's your favourite bar?
Bistro C in Noosa! Otherwise, I love Since I Left You in Sydney, also.
TUL: Best way to spend $50?
A good book from Berkelouw Books in Eumundi.
TUL: Best way to spend $500?
Luxury couples spa treatment at Noosa Springs Day Spa.
TUL: Tracks you are loving at the moment?
I'm loving the new Whitley album, I'm rediscovering the magic of Fleetwood Mac and also digging the new Daft Punk album!
