Two Minutes with Lorna Jane

By Kim Barnard
5th Aug 2013

On Sunday the 29th of September, Lorna Jane's second Active Nation Day will kick off, to encourage Australians to get active and live a healthy lifestyle. Lorna Jane is not just a fitness clothing empire, the brand is as much about what you do to get your butt moving, as about what you put on said butt while exercising. Fitness is so important for our health and wellbeing, and we love a cause that makes it easy and fun to get excited about getting active.

Want to get involved? Download the free Lorna Jane iphone app (here) and start logging your exercise!

We caught up with the woman behind the Lorna Jane fitness empire, Lorna herself, to find out more about Active Nation Day and what it's like to be Australia's queen of fitness.

TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?

I am the Founder and Creative Director of Lorna Jane.

TUL: What is the best part about your job?

Having a platform to inspire women with our Active Living Philosophy.

TUL: How did the Lorna Jane brand come to be? Where did you start out?

Lorna Jane was created because as a fitness instructor in the early '90s, I couldn't find active wear that was both fashionable and functional. It has gone on to become a brand that inspires women all over the world to be active.

TUL: If you weren't building a fitness fashion empire, what other career path would you choose?

It's hard to imagine living my life any other way because I am  so sure this is what I was put on the planet to do . . . But it would be definitely be something to do with fitness, health and inspiring women.

TUL: What do you want people to take away from the Lorna Jane brand?

That the Active Living Philosophy and the daily practice of Move Nourish Believe is the secret to a life of happiness and success.

TUL: Describe your personal style.

My look is sporty with a fashionable edge;  like running shorts with a luxury sweater or track pants with heels etc . . .

TUL: If you were an animal, what would you be?

Dory from Finding Nemo because my mind is always going at a million miles an hour.

TUL: If you could have a super power what would it be?

Making people happy.

TUL: The last thing you purchased?

Isabel Marant sneakers and a Phillip Lim Handbag.

TUL: Best way to spend 50 dollars?

At the Farmers Market.

TUL: And the best way to spend 500 dollars?

A weekend getaway.

 TUL: I'm listening to…

Absolutely nothing! I've started running without music and the thinking time it has given me has changed my life.

TUL: The best gift that you have ever received?

My dog, Roger (my husband gave him to me  for my birthday 2 years ago).

TUL: The best gift that you have ever given?

The most fun one recently was giving my husband a Mini Moke because it was his very first car and he loves it.

TUL: What would you request for your last meal on earth?

TUL: What does a typical day look like for you?

Rise early, have a healthy breakfast, walk my dog, and then workout. I'm usually in the office by 9am where the day can be anything from designing, fitting, shooting a new campaign, or having meetings with my team. Lunch is almost always at my desk answering emails or in another meeting. The afternoon consists of more meetings, design planning and if I'm lucky some writing or work on future projects. On a good day I might get to a yoga class in the afternoon, then I walk my dog again with my husband were we touch base on the day that was, dinner is usually at home, then a little reading and an early night to be fresh and ready for the next day.
