Brisbane-based designer, Sacha Drake is a design magician, transforming the figuers of the women she dresses with her flattering, wearable styles. Advocating a culture of confidence and sass through her designs, we sat down with the Sacha to talk pear shapes, Brisbane's best blow drys, and styling tips every lady should know.

TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?

I am a fashion designer, entrepreneur and business manager!

TUL: What is the best part about your job?

The beginning: Choosing gorgeous fabrics and draping them into wearable pieces. Then, the end of the cycle:  getting e-mails, photos and comments from customers telling me about how good they feel in my frocks. It's very reassuring!

TUL: How did the Sacha Drake brand come to be? Where did you start out?

I felt there was a gap in the market for party dresses in size 12 – 18, that fitted a curvy hourglass figure. The first collection we sold, the buyers all bought size 8 – 12. Now, I design for all shapes and sizes, catering for women from Petite through Voluptuous figures.

TUL: How would you describe the Sacha Drake woman?

She is a woman, with a desire to look her best. She values quality and has the confidence to wear something unique.

TUL: What do you want people to take away from Sacha Drake designs?

TUL: Can you explain the Sacha Drake 'Body Shapes' concept to us? How do your designs help women look their best?

The heart of my design ethos is to design garments that are exciting on the hanger but even better on the body – as many range of bodies as possible.

I developed the Body Shapes Concept as a communication tool to discuss our proportions in a constructive way. E.g: Instead of…"I hate my big bum"…I am PEAR shaped….This is much kinder to ourselves. At Sacha Drake we don't indulge in any negative self-talk, or let our customer either!

TUL: Can you tell us a bit about your Styling Sessions?

It's our way of going the extra mile for our customers. If they need education on how to dress, we assist with outlining their unique proportions and how to dress for them. If they know what suits, but are time poor, we put together speedy wardrobe options for quick shops.

If they want to shop afterhours with friends, we organise afterhours service.

TUL: What are 3 styling tips every woman should know?

·      Dress for your shape, not for trends!

·      Create a 'when in doubt' wardrobe of quality, classic go-to pieces.

·      Don't wear anything that doesn't make you feel confident.

TUL: Describe your personal style.

I guess it's how I describe my label.....feminine but striking.

TUL: If you could have a super power what would it be?

To create a clone of myself when I need more than one of me to be a good designer, mother, business owner and wife!

TUL: The last thing you purchased?

My morning coffee.

TUL: Best way to spend $50?

A gorgeous blow dry at the Blow Dry Room in Paddington. They make you look like a movie star in under an hour!

TUL: And the best way to spend $500?

What else but a Sacha Drake silk frock!

 TUL: I'm listening to…

As much new music as possible.

Current new favourite, The Jungle Giants….Brisbane band around the corner from us in Kangaroo Point! I love to support local creativity!

TUL: The best gift that you have ever received?

My engagement ring…it's forever, from my wonderful husband. And my health.

TUL: The best gift that you have ever given?

My healthy children!

TUL: What would you request for your last meal on earth?

To be with my family across the generations and all my siblings. With a bucket of champagne and a bucket of prawns to share.

TUL: What does a typical day look like for you?

Like every working mother!

Up and at it with family, getting kids to kindy and school.

Work. Fittings, meetings, fittings, design, meetings, sometimes on planes, rush, rush, rush.

Home to dinner and bath / bed time with family.

Kids to bed.

Glass of wine or cup of tea and the other stuff that needs to be organised!

Some great TV to unwind.

TUL: 3 places in Brisbane you couldn't live without?
