The Verdict | Alcove Cafe & Deli

Lounging outside of Alcove Cafe feels like you've gone on a welcome little minibreak to The Hamptons. But with better coffee.

This Wilston newbie (they've just celebrated their first birthday) occupies a hole-in-the-wall style space that's positively bursting with gourmet goodies, fresh produce, and good food. On weekends and weekdays you'll find patrons sprawling outside this eatery, sampling the breakfast menu, tucking into one of their heavenly sweet treats (favourites include the Portuguese egg tarts, home-made brownies and an off-the-hook vanilla slice), or having a coffee in Alcove's generally adorable surrounds.

Alcove has a solid breakfast menu that's been embraced by the locals with gusto, and a special extended breakfast menu on weekends. Their slow-cooked Italian eggs come in a terracotta pot of tomato goodness, with Italian sausage and two poached eggs on top. This is one breakfast you can definitely share. Their avo, fetta, and dukkah smash on toast is a Moroccan take on this breakfast staple, and a pretty darn delish' one at that.

There's also a daily selection of moreish salads and homemade sandwiches for later in the day, and an ever-changing selection of small goods (think cheeses, pates, oils, dips, terrines, chutneys, and fresh, crusty loaves of bread—essentially everything you could need to make a tasting plate to die for.) There's also a handy selection of frozen pastas and curries on hand for an easy take-away meal.

With an emphasis on Queensland-sourced produce, this little nook is basically a one-stop shop if you're looking to entertain. They even have fresh flowers for sale—consider your dinner party sorted.
