September’s almost here and we can think of no better way to ring in Brisbane Pride Month than with XXX-Stitch on 31 August.
Glad you asked.
XXX-Stitch is an exhibition of photo-realistic embroidery, rendering stills from vintage queer pornography in cotton crosses. Hosted by the fine cats at Betty’s Espresso, the exhibition has been three years in the making for local Brisbane artist and needlesmith Dominic Edward, and is the best thing to happen to cross-stitch since the invention of the embroidery hoop. If you fancy spicing up your living room with a sexy tapestry, you need to come check it out. All pieces will be available for purchase on the night so bring some dosh and your most becoming turtleneck.
Speaking of threads, Dominic Edward will also be selling some vintage denim jackets that he’s appliquéd with embroidered tapestries. Given the bespoke nature of the jackets, each one is unique in size, style and tapestry scene, so we recommend getting there early for first pick.
You can get a sneak peek of some of the works that will be on display and for sale by heading over to Dominic Edward’s Instagram. And just in case it slipped your mind, Betty’s Espresso is completely licensed so expect this one to be a rollicker.
