If you need further proof whisky is having a serious moment on the Gold Coast, look no further than Yamagen’s latest dining experience.
With their last Nikka Whisky Dinner proving such a hit, the team at The QT has organised a second helping and we’re so glad they did. Taking place on Wednesday 12 June, you’ll be treated to an evening of whisky and innovative izakaya.
While Yamagen’s executive chef Adam Lane is in the process of finalising his innovative menu for the night, if the previous dinner was anything to go by, then you’re in for a real treat. Diners gorged on delights like Tottori Bourbon Barrel cured salmon with apple and smoked vinegar and duck breast with Asian mushroom and ponzu beuree blanc. It was finished off with a tonka bean and Kurayoshi 18 year old frozen parfait with compressed nashi pears and smoked honey.
Each of the six courses will be paired with a tasty tipple, while Nikka Whisky Ambassador Kevin Griffin will be guiding you through the tasting and taking you on a journey through history.
“Whisky in Japan is consumed quite differently due to their cuisine and climate. Their culture leads to a much more elegant refined style as opposed to its Scottish, Irish and American counterparts,” says Griffin.
“It pairs incredibly well with food too. Japanese whiskies are respected for their balance and finesse, meaning they can harmonise more easily with a dish while still providing a steady foundation of flavour.”
Whisky lovers, you know what to do: gather your mates and enjoy a truly special sensory experience.
