The Best New Year Celebrations On The Sunshine Coast

By Claire Plush - 19 Dec 2016

When it comes to ringing in 2017, you don’t want to be stuck just anywhere.

Which is why we’re helping you get prepped for the last night of 2016, by rounding up the best New Year’s Eve celebrations happening across the Sunshine Coast.

From fancy dinners to parties in da clubs, however you see yourself saying “sayonara” to the year that was, we’ve most likely got you covered.

new years eve_3The Dinner

Gainsbourg are throwing a very epic five-course dinner ($75) with matching booze for $130, right in the heart of Mooloolaba. You’ll get front row seats to the fireworks display, and have a nice, food-filled table to hang out. If you’ve dined here before, then you’ll know bookings are a must, and you should prbs get in quick ‘cause these will get snapped up!

If you’re after a dinner party-vibing event to celebrate the end of 2016, look up Pitchfork’s All-White Affair. Easily one of our fave restaurants on the Sunshine Coast, Pitchfork are offering two sittings—5pm and 7pm—including a three-course ($95) and four-course set menu ($115) respectively, live entertainment, and a glass of champers on arrival. Got the kids? Don’t fear! These guys also have a kids menu available AND they overlook the village square, so there’s plenty of space for the little tykes to stretch their legs while you dine in style.

One of the best restaurants in Noosa, we can always trust Rickys to put the “classy” into a celebration and this NYE is no exception. There’s both an early and late offering on the table but, if it were us, we’d opt for the 8.30pm sitting. Why? Because the chefs are serving up four delectable courses instead of three, there’ll be live tunes, and you’ll get to “oooh” and “ahhhh” over fireworks. At $210 a pop, it’s not cheap, but hey, NYE only comes around once a year, so there goes that excuse.

Wood Fire Grill
Meat-lovers who are keen to keep things a little more low key this year (no tabletop dancing ‘round here), should book a posi at Wood Fire Grill asap! Along with a side of fireworks (because, what is NYE without them?!), the four-course meal ($185) kicks off at 8.30pm (go for the shared lamb shoulder—OMG!), but if you’ve got littlies in tow, there’s also a 5pm sitting.

Embassy XO
Asian-fusion lovers should be all over Embassy XO, especially on the last night of the year when they’re serving up an incredible banquet and French champagne for $110. Sunshine Beach is bringing the goods, folks!

If you’ve got big plans to ring in 2017 on Ocean Street, and party ‘til the sun comes up, then you’d best be filling your belly with some good, no, great, food. Book a table at old-world restaurant and bar Orleans with all your mates and indulge your tastebuds with four epic courses ($95). Now, tell us, will it be the pressed pork belly, blackened tuna, or the duke-stuffed duck?

Lot 104
With so much action happening around Mooloolaba, Lot 104 is the perfect place to witness all the NYE shenanigans in style. Dine on a scrumptious degustation, down all of the drinks, lap up the fireworks, and then, get your schmooze on in the lounge bar. What happens in 2016 stays in 2016, right?

The After-Party

Black Bunny Kitchen
Let’s be real, to have a great New Year’s Eve you need two things, incredible food and good music. Lucky for us Black Bunny Kitchen is delivering both. There’ll be lamb and pig on the spit—yep, that means pulled pork and lamb is coming atcha!—plus, a reggae band to create the kinda background music that won’t be background music for long, if you know what we mean? And when everything winds down around 11pm, you’re just across the road from the beach—perfect to end the night on a fireworks high.

El Capitano
For those that like things a little wild, we can pretty much vouch that El Capitano will be going off the hook. Offering a three-hour package (9.30pm to 12.30am) for $150 + BF, you’ll get to feast on canapes and pizza, sip on cocktails, bubbly, wine and beer, and bust moves on the d-floor to three rotating DJs. Plus, the party keeps going when the package ends, with a closing time of 2am. NYE in Noosa? Heck yes! And don’t forget, dress “nautical”!

Old Soul
Party people, mark this one down! Old Soul is throwing a NYE Disco Party with free entry all night long. Spinning classics and soul, doors open at 9pm ‘til late, meaning you can go for a respectable dinner somewhere, before landing yourself in the party zone. These guys know how to throw an epic shindig, so wear your comfy shoes and get ready for a night of sipping, dipping, and shots—c’mon there’s always shots.

Miss Moneypenny’s
Sparkle into 2017 at Miss Moneypenny’s GlitterBall Discotheque party. Stretching all the way from 8pm to 2am, this Hastings Street crew will have all your cocktail and dancing needs sorted. This is a ticketed event though, so go and snag yours now.

Another of our fave spots to get a little cray cray, Solbar is pulling out the stops this NYE with NO cover charge. Which means more cash in your pocket for G&Ts, then more G&Ts, and then more G&Ts. All the fun starts in the lounge bar at 7pm and then moves to the back bar with DJ Total Eclipse ruling over the decks. Need to line your stomach like all good partygoers? Scroll up and check out Orleans above.

Café Le Monde
If you think nothing is gonna get you in the New Year spirit, you’re wrong—because Café Le Monde’s Jungle Party most definitely will. Head to this Noosa old-timer between 8pm and 9pm and for 55 bucks you’ll get a VIP ticket which includes canapes and drinks. Or, if you’re having a fancy pants dinner somewhere else, then count this as your after-party. Featuring OG funksters Afro Dizzi Act and supported by DJs Mass Room, Natø and special guests, book your tickets now ($25 for entry after 9pm) or risk crying into your vodka and Redbull on your couch come December 31.

The Basement
If you’re craving just a true-blue party—good beers, good tunes, and good times—scoot The Basement to the top of your list! Haven’t checked out this newbie in Nambour yet? Opened by the bros behind Your Mates Brewing Co. we reckon this beer cave will have a whole house party slant. There’ll also be a local band Cloacas’ releasing their EP plus a DJ mixing them beats from 8pm onwards. Party on!
