If you hang around Maroochydore, you might’ve caught wind of something different going down. And after throwing open their doors officially on Friday night, we can now share all of the juicy deets with you.
(Side note: Haven’t eaten dinner yet? It’s probably best you do, because we’re about to bring all of the deliciousness straight to your screen.)
Guys, it’s time you said hello to Maroochydore’s latest addition, Chow.
Now, we’ll be honest. There’s only one thing we love more than a new restaurant opening on the Sunshine Coast. And that’s a new restaurant that sets up shop along one of our fave streets, to dish up cheap Asian eats from their kitchen to our bellies.
Created by two mates, Jeremy Kennedy and Jordan Lund, the first thing you’re going to notice about Chow is the interior. Kitted out with timber walls, dimly-lit pendant lights, concrete floors, greenery and black furniture, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere on the Coast you can compare this restaurant’s ‘look’ to.
Once you find a posi—we totally recommend grabbing a stool overlooking Ocean Street—it all becomes about the food and the drinks, naturally.
Serving up a mix of South East Asian food, the menu is brimming with smaller-style plates you’d be happy to share with your SO. As long as they share whatever they’re having, too.
Covering small plates, bowls, large plates, sides and a yakitori selection of nine flavours—which is pretty much a menu in itself—there’s a whole lot to love.
From Duck Boats, which are essentially Chow’s version of a san choy bow using their specialty sauce, to a Filipino crispy pork belly and tataki shooters (yep, these are served in shot glasses), you probably oughta try every.single.dish.
When it comes to the yakitori, you can either opt with one flavour which includes three skewers or, if like us, your decision-making skills in restaurants are non-existent, you can order the yakitori set, which includes a variety of flavours (choose between five or 10 skewers), plus any two sides and a shot of house sake.
Prefer your yakitori without the meat? No problemo. These guys have got you covered with tofu, mushroom, mixed veggie and aubergine options. Add a side of rice and season stir-fried veggies, and Chow’s your fave new Asian restaurant.
In drinks land, we’ve never met an espresso martini we didn’t like, and the Chowspresso Martini is no exception. With spiced rum, Chocolate Mozart, butterscotch liqueur and espresso (duh!), we’d save this one for dessert! Instead, to start the night, the Red Lotus is divine—a light mix of gin, plum wine, lime juice, plum puree, honey syrup and sliced ginger, it’s the perfect combo of naughty but nice.
Open six days a week, from Tuesday through to Sunday, if date night is on the cards for later in the week—this is the spot.
