Well, hellooooo autumn! March 1 marks the official departure of summer but it’s no reason to cry into your acai smoothie, ‘cause it also happens to be one of the most action-packed months of the year.
March plays host to a string of super-sized festivities headed up by the Noosa Surf Festival, and the Mooloolaba Tri rounding out the calendar; plus, an extra-long Easter holiday weekend squeezed in for good measure. How lucky are we!
Here’s our pick of seven awesome things to do on the Sunshine Coast this March.
The Craft Club | March 6
Kinda like book club but not, The Craft Club is all about beer and breweries. Held at Drift Bar in Caloundra, Green Beacon from Brisbane will be joining the craft crowd to show off their very easy-to-drink brews. For $20, you’ll be tasting beer, talking beer, and munchin’ on beer snacks. Only held once every two months, if you miss out on March’s event, you’re gonna have to hold out ‘til May. You have been warned!

Ayana Misawa Wine Event at Wasabi | March 6
Fancy yourself an underground wine connoisseur? Then you want to mark March 6 on the calendar. Female winemakers are rare, and in Japan, almost non-existent. So when we found out that one of Japan’s only female winemakers, Ayana Misawa from Grace Winery, was hosting an incredible six-course lunch with matching wines at Wasabi, well we knew it’d be a crime not to share. If you truly love wine and the stories behind it, the $165 ticket price is totally worth it. Seriously!

Noosa Festival of Surfing | March 8 to 12
Undoubtedly one of the best events of the year, Noosa Festival of Surfing is pulling out the big guns for its 25th birthday celebrations. The epitome of Coast life, this year’s festival brings together three of our fave things, good waves (we hope!), good people, and good tunes. The food and the booze ain’t bad either! With a jam-packed schedule including free yoga, beach parties, world-premiers of films, and of course, loads of surfing, you’re going to wanna hang around from first light until dark, just so you can do it all. Keep your eyes peeled on Metropolist for the ultimate guide to the festival, coming very very soon.
Where: Noosa Main Beach, Noosa Heads
Mooloolaba Tri | March 11 to 13
While you sleep in and dream about bacon and egg rolls on a Sunday morning, spare a thought for those who are swimming 1500m, cycling 40km, and pounding the pavement along Mooloolaba Esplanade for 10km as part of the fitness frenzy that is Mooloolaba Tri. Even better, join them or cheer from the sidelines (‘cause let’s face it, there’s no way you’re going to actually join them). There’s also an ocean swim and a twilight run in the days leading up to the big kahuna, for those who prefer their sporting events shorter and sweatier sweeter.

Bowie — A tribute to the man who fell to Earth | March 18
Yeah, yeah, so you’ve seen your fair share of Bowie tributes by now, but we’re pretty sure that none have been like this. Super talented musicians from across Southeast Queensland will be gathering at Sol Bar in a passionate tribute to a true legend. Expect a 10-piece band and heartfelt renditions of the great classics. These kind of tribute events won’t happen forever, actually, they probably will, but just hit it anyway.

Good For You | March 19
When gigs come to the Coast, we get excited. When awesome gigs come to the Coast, well, things get a little cray cray. Joe’s Waterhole at Eumundi is playing the “host with the most” for the Good For You concert. Like the name suggests, it’s probably good for you to get tickets to this one, ‘cause it’ll mean you be singing along with Triple J fave Courtney Bartnett, Fraser A. Gorman, and Jen Cloher plus a few others under the Milk! Records label (pssst… that’s the one Courtney started back in 2012, FYI). This event is a must if you’re addicted to live music and are looking for things to do on the Sunshine Coast this month.

Ocean Street World Festival | March 27
Hitting publish on this article, we don’t know a whole lot about what’s in store for us at this year’s Ocean Street World Festival. But, what we do know is that it’s probably going to be like Nights on Ocean on steroids—bigger, better, more worldly, and with even more energy pumping through this Maroochydore vein. It’s also on Easter Sunday, so after you’re done with the choccy, get down here for some epic stalls brimming with street food, and live music.
