You read right team—you can head to the movies for zero dollars this summer and it’s alllllll thanks to the Art Gallery of New South Wales [insert moaning about the increasing cost of movie tickets here]. Specifically, these legends are throwing one big celebration in honour of the golden years in New York City circa 1970-‘80s.
Expect classics from directors like Scorsese (Taxi Driver), Cassavetes (Gloria) and Lumet (no biggie). And because these guys don’t do anything by halves, they’re also throwing a series of Saturday events and this month it’s all about feminist films—obviously, we’re all over this.
The film series is running alongside the current exhibition of Robert Mapplethope’s photography that comes straight from (you guessed it) NYC in the ‘70s and ‘80s. And before you go searching for tickets to the films online, they’re only available at the box office one hour prior to screenings. More details here.
