Some things just go together, like PB and jelly, and Posh and Becks, so this year we’ve teamed up with MINI to bring you, our discerning readers and drivers, our fortnightly MINI Fave 5 series: The must-try guide to Brisbane, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch

Going coastal is always a good idea for a road trip in our book, and the Sunshine Coast is hitting its stride in a seriously cool way at the moment.

If you’ve been dreaming of the beach life (who doesn’t?) but not sure where to get your Sunshine Coast café fix, no stress, we’ve got you covered! From crazy cakes to homegrown goodness, here’s our fave five Sunshine Coast cafes.

If you’ve been anywhere near Instagram lately, you’ve probably stumbled across the mind-blowing, #foodporny images of Tome’s mouth-wateringly epic cakes, doughnuts and baked goods. Well on its way to becoming a coast institution for both its coffee and cakes, Tome is more than worth the road trip to Maroochydore. The gluten free wild orange, raspberry and coconut cakes are locked into our radar right now.

The Velo Project

Hot tip locavore lovers, The Velo Project is your jam, you just might not know it yet. With a big focus on high quality, sustainable produce, the Velo team love supporting local farmers and suppliers to bring you delish dishes and freshly brewed coffee seven days a week. The seasonal menu changes regularly but features a combo of classic breakfast faves plus some creative options to highlight the best of the coast. The eclectically decorated space, adorned with hanging lights, and sketches on the wall, is cosy and cool all at the same time. Great for catch ups or a solitary brekkie.

Nestled in the lush heart of Palmwoods, Homegrown is all about a small batch coffee (roasted onsite) and locally sourced produce. Serving up some of the most creative—and pretty salads—we’ve ever eaten, Homegrown also host a seasonal dinner on the first Saturday of every month as well as a handmade markets, to promote the best of the Coast’s slow living movement. Take your tea, or coffee and cake, out in the envy-inducing kitchen garden for a real al fresco treat!

Sitting pretty surfside at Kings Beach, Beau’s wants you to have a good time, 100% of the time. Amazing foodstuffs from their tidy all-day menu and quite the selection of both hot and cold drinks ain’t no thing for this cute little seaside café, keeping locals and tourists happy seven days a week.

Compound Secondhand Surf & Espresso

One of the hippest places on the Coast, Compound in Coolum, is perfect for laidback eats and coffee, AND a spot of op shopping! Grab a takeaway bagel or bowl of granola, or grab a seat at the bar and shoot the breeze over an espresso or two.
