It’s around this time of year where we all start to make plans about what to eat on Christmas Day. Who isn’t looking forward to a bit of ham, maybe some BBQ prawns (they do go down a treat), probably some Chrissy pudding that no one really likes but you buy one anyway, and a few drinks with the fam? We sure as hell are.
It’s also around the end of the year where we reflect on what we’re thankful for—living in Oz, I’m sure we’re all in agreement that we’ve got it pretty good—and look forward to the new year with renewed goals and excitement (and probably plans on how to shift the winter bulge!).
But you know what keeps me up at night? The fact that millions upon millions of people in this world we share go hungry every single day and struggle to feed their families. And I’m not okay with that. My boss certainly isn’t okay with that, and that’s why I’m writing this article.
This global issue is very close to our hearts here at The Urban List. Our commander in chief, Susannah George has recently stepped up to become an ambassador for The Hunger Project’s ‘Unleashed Women’ movement, and is dedicated to raising $1,000 before the end of 2016 (for those of you not familiar with The Hunger Project, they have one very powerful, impactful goal; to end global hunger by 2030. Powerful stuff, huh?)
How does the Unleashed Women movement make a difference? They empower the world’s poorest and most marginalised women, and work alongside individuals, enabling them to provide for their own communities and families, and remove themselves from the cycle of hunger.
So, how does it work? The Unleashed Women movement has built a network of women trying to make a difference by helping to raise money in their local communities to support communities in the most impoverished areas around the world. The goal is to raise $250,000 in the first year, which will support The Hunger Project’s programs in Africa, India and Bangladesh.
Unleashed Women is proving the world over that women are key in the fight against hunger, and that with all of our help, we can make sure that their goal is met. Wouldn’t that be something to be proud of?
So, here’s how you can make a difference, right now:
Join the Unleashed Women movement, and help to raise money in your local community. If you’re up for the challenge, and want to be a part of a global team of kick-ass women, click here to sign up, now.
Donate to Women Unleashed. Every little bit helps, so open up the wallets and know you’re giving to a cause that is actively making a difference. Hit their website to find out how.
Spread some extra Christmas cheer this year. You'll be doing a lot of good for a worthy cause. And, isn't helping others where we can what we're all actually here to do?
