We Take On Getta Burger, West End | The Verdict

Getta Burger West End

Once upon a time the average Brisbanite didn't have much of a choice when it came to burgers. It started with Maccas and Hungry Jacks before the rise of "healthy" burger restaurants a few years ago.

But alas, Getta Burger was soon born into the streets of Carina and Bridgeman Downs before hearing an urgent call for help at the 4101. A few weeks ago, a grand slam of meat and cheese descended upon West End in the shape of a brand-spanking-new Getta Burger.

It’s impossible to miss the West End restaurant on Brereton Street thanks to the massive yellow front wall (which will trigger your senses and make you daydream about gooey melty cheese). The West End restaurant looks like something between a ranch, a shed and an American diner.

On the menu are nine different massively delicious burgers to choose from and if you’re feeling ambitious you can even add extras. The new burger joint also has a selection of beers, ciders, wines, soft drinks and shakes. Um, and they have an apple pie and cherry pie milkshake! These milkshakes are literally made by blending pie with cream and ice cream. OMG stop it.

Consumers beware Getta Burger is not for the weak. I opted for the Getta Cheese because I thought it might be a bit smaller than its other friends on the menu like the Getta “Lot”. I was wrong. The Getta Cheese was the size of my head.

I thought, okay Kristina, you’ve got this. You haven’t eaten much today. You can do it, girl! I took the first bite and my eyes rolled to the back of my head with happiness. Damn, it was tasty. Halfway through the burger I had to take a break and at three quarters I gave up and entered into meaty, cheesy food coma.

The burger contained a beef patty, double cheese, onion, pickles mustard and “that BBQ sauce”.

In my defence the reason I couldn’t finish it was because I was also sharing the Getta Filthy Fries with a friend. Oh, let me tell you about theses fries. Covered in cheese then topped with smoked brisket, pulled pork, grilled onion and maple bacon, finished with “that BBQ sauce”, ranch and mustard. Make. It. Stop. It’s no wonder I was in a food coma! Getta Burger is a meat-eating burger lover’s heaven.

Although Getta Burger may have defeated me, I guarantee any big burly man would inhale one of these burgers and will be left wanting more!
