Start planning your next big day trip, because as of tomorrow, you will be allowed to visit Fraser Island, Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island again. The news comes after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk met with the disaster management group yesterday.
With each island closed to visitors during the height of coronavirus, these tough restrictions will be lifted as of 11.59pm tonight. Couple that with the increase of our road-tripping limit to 150km, and if you live near enough to any of these floating parcels of paradise, you’d better snag your ticket for a ferry ride over stat.
While it’s super exciting news for anyone that’s feeling the need for an island escape, you won’t be able to pitch your tent or book a resort room for the weekend just yet. That time will come with Stage 2 of the three-step plan to end Queensland’s lockdown, along with broader travel increasing to 250km from home.
But for now, load up the 4WD, book your ferry/barge ticket and get exploring these beautiful Queensland islands for the day.
Got the itch to travel internationally? This is when we're likely to travel overseas again.
