Having been a frequent visitor at the beautiful State Buildings since they threw open their (gorgeous, restored) doors last year, I was yet to have a sticky beak into the corner of the precinct known as the COMO Shambhala Urban Escape.
Walking in on a Friday afternoon a few weeks back, it did not disappoint.
Just like the rest of the State Buildings—with its grand halls, sweeping staircases, beautiful archways and restored original flooring (can I just move in please?!)—the spa at COMO The Treasury has luxury and sophistication stamped all over it.
A stunning and luxurious sanctuary of calm which has everything you could possibly need to knock your stressed little socks off and send you straight into the #blisszone, the spa features four treatment rooms and like the rest of the hotel and surrounding building, great care has been taken in designing them.
A quick little history lesson on the COMO brand: COMO Hotels and Resorts owner, Christina Ong designed COMO Shambhala out of her personal pursuit of a meaningful spa experience. In 2000, she created COMO Shambhala Retreat at Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos. Now, the company owns and operates seven sanctuaries worldwide along with five COMO Shambhala Urban Escapes (Perth is the fifth after Bangkok, London, Miami and Singapore.)
As is their intention as an ‘international standard’ hotel, you really feel like you could be in London, Singapore or Paris when you walk in to the hotel and spa.
After being greeted and delivered a green juice from Post (who have a signature healthy COMO Shambhala menu), I was led to my room to get ready for the bliss that ensued.
I’ve had my fair share of massages over the years but this experience really was one of the most memorable.
The treatment I had—the signature COMO Shambhala massage—is a really unique massage and for an hour, my gorgeous masseuse worked her magic on my back, shoulders, arms, stomach, legs, head and neck with hands that were well practiced in relieving stress, tension and seemingly everything else.
The massage involved long strokes from my shoulders to ankles, as well as elements like hot cloths to get all of the knots out of shoulders (must stop hunching over my laptop!), and an incredible smelling mix of essential oils (including bergamot, thyme, geranium, marjoram and almond) were massaged into my appreciative body as all of the tensions of the week melted away. It was relaxing yet relieving, firm yet gentle…and absolutely divine!
The treatments here aim to calm the mind and rejuvenate the body and I really did feel relaxed but not too dopey when it was all over.
Massage aside, it’s the little things that really make a difference at this spa. Each room has its own bathroom so I was left to have a shower and freshen up after my treatment before stepping back out to the reception area where a delicious ginger tea was waiting for me.
My only regret was that I didn’t get to float back to my COMO The Treasury hotel room upstairs afterwards—I can dream right?!
