So you drank one too many vats of wine last night. It happens. Peel your pounding head from the pillow, drop a Berocca and give us twenty—it’s time to fight your way through the fog like the Rocky Balboa you are. Here’s our list of Perth's 9 best hangover meals to get you back in the land of the living.

Double Cheese Deluxe Burger, Beer Battered Fries, Chocolate & Peanut Butter Milkshake | Varsity Bar

All a true-blue hangover needs is a couple of stars and stripes. Get your gob around this Yank-style burger, complete with two fat, juicy patties, sticky melted cheese, tart pickles, fresh tomato, obligatory red onion and that wondrous Varsity mayo from Varsity Bar. But why stop there? Chow down on some crunchy beer battered fries and slug back a chocolate and peanut butter milkshake on the side and get yourself back in business, baby.

Rice Congee With 63 Degree Eggs, Crispy Bacon and Hollandaise | Nunam

Don’t be scared. Yes this Nunam favourite has got bacon, yes it’s kind of soupy and yes, it comes with hollandaise sauce, but trust us, this modern twist on an ancient favourite is still classic comfort food. One bite of that fluffy rice, those creamy slow cooked eggs and that finger-licking soup, packed with zingy ginger and slivers of spring onion, and you’ll feel instantly healed. Think of it as the warm hug you need on this most challenging of mornings. Add the crunch of the deep fried bacon and the rich hollandaise to put some pep in your step, and you’ll be back to form in no time.

Classic Steak Sambo | Mary Street Bakery

Consider Mary Street Bakery your BFF when it’s time to conquer the spins. Need a killer coffee? Here you go, sir. How about a freshly baked salted caramel doughnut? No problem. But to really get you back on your feet after a night of excess, go the steak sambo. Butter soft rump steak, teamed with caramelised onion, aioli and some much needed greens, jammed between two thick slices of char-grilled bread. It’s just the meaty-sweety hit you need in this weak kitty state, while the foliage scores some crucial points in the nutrition department. Game on.

The Manwich | Mrs S

Man up already! Mop up that excess liquor with a colossal Manwich from Mrs S. This puppy is packed with pulled pork so tender it will make you shed a tear. Add sweet beetroot pickle, a slick of cucumber and a handful of rocket, slapped between a bitchin’ bun, and you’ve got sustenance. Expect to feel full for the next seven days.

Pancakes With Salted Caramel, Banana, Hazelnuts And Cream | Gordon Street Garage

So if the thought of cooked piggy is making you want to barf, hit the stylish stodge instead. Crawl over to the peeps at Gordon Street Garage and tuck into a stack of heaven—perfect pancakes, fluffy as baby ducklings, smothered in tangy salted caramel, crunchy hazelnuts, thick cream and chopped banana. That’s banana with a capital B, as in the vitamin you’re seriously lacking right now. It's just the injection you need to bring yourself back from the dead.

Breakfast Dog | East Village

OK, so you’ve got two options at East Village. One, haul your butt out of bed before 11.30am and gobble down a breakfast dog, which basically involves a monster of an Irish sausage, coddled eggs and BBQ sauce jammed in a pillowy bun. Or, if you want to sleep off those shakes for as long as humanly possible, head there for lunch and opt for The Meatpacking District instead. This bad boy dish is built for two, and includes pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, slow cooked lamb, chilli buttered corn cob, slaw, onion gravy and a hotdog. OMG!

BLT Baguette | West End Deli

Sure, there are more fancy pants baguettes on the West End Deli menu, like soft shell crab with preserved lemon mayo or brie with caramelised onion. But today is all about the humble BLT, where thick, double smoked bacon meets old pals lettuce, tomato salsa and whole egg mayo in a crusty baguette. The ultimate hangover buster posse.

Shakshuka with Chorizo | Canvas Cafe

You’re lying in bed, your guts are churning and your head feels like it was assaulted by a pack of maternal magpies. We suggest you head to Canvas, pronto, and order the signature Shakshuka dish. There’s a reason why this gift from the Gods has a cult following—think two eggs poached in 16-hour tomato sauce with fresh herbs, marinated olives and fresh bread to mop it all up with. For extra coin, you can take it up another notch by chucking in chorizo, feta, lamb kofta or mushrooms. Our vote? Chorizo all the way.

Soul Sandwich | May Street Larder

All hail the soul sandwich! This tumbling tower of polenta waffles from May Street Larder is not the prettiest gal at the ball, but with a stack of juicy, buttermilk-soaked fried chicken, mooshed avocado, smoky sour cream, drizzles of sweet maple syrup and those pingin’ pickled jalapenos, she will catch your heart. A perfect pick-me-up for those hangover blues.
