It’s almost summer time! Which means more happiness. More swims. More Sunday sessions. More socialising. But do you know what else it means? More flesh on display. Yep, that’s right. After a very long winter, the time has finally come for us to start shedding those layers and getting our rigs out once again. Oh dear.
We don’t know about you, but we may have dropped the ball a bit this winter. It was so damn cold, how on earth could we get up at 6am to go to the gym? Or decline that warm toasty pizza or extra glass of mulled wine? But it’s all good, it’s not too late to turn this ship around. We’ve found some of Perth’s best new workout classes, so we can all get fit and firing once again for summer time.
Suns out, guns out. Let’s do this.
Community Classes At Tonic Yoga
How good is it when you go to a yoga class and there is a brand new teacher, with new poses, new transitions, new playlists and it all just feels like a big breath of fresh air? Well, every Friday night at Tonic Yoga there's a community class, where a new up-and-coming yoga teacher gets to take over the studio, so you get to experience a bit of variety in your life. Plus, community classes are by donation, so you’ll even save a bit of coin. Namaste, indeed.
In case you have been living under a rock for the past year and don’t know what F45 is, let us explain—it's 45 minutes of pure hell, that will leave you looking like the most toned and magnificent version of yourself that you have ever seen. If you’re a resilient person and can handle 45 minutes of agony a couple of times a week in exchange for a bangin’ rig, then get around it.
Cardio Boxing At Anarchy Training Centre
Nothing makes you feel quite as good as a big ol’ session of punching stuff. But what about punching stuff AND a bit of cardio? Now that’s a recipe for a good time. The team at Anarchy Training Centre have crafted a pretty sweet timetable of boxing classes designed to get your heart rate up, improve your fitness and get you toned.
Hip Hop Yoga At Vital Beat
Finally, the two magical worlds of hip hop and yoga have collided, amalgamating in Vital Beat Yoga Studio. For the fast-moving vinyasa classes, you get booty-shaking hip hop beats; for the slower hatha classes, it’s R’n’B slow jams; and for the gentle yin classes, its soul music and loads of candlelight.
TRX At Pure Moves
Hanging about in TRX suspension straps looks like a lot of fun, but let us tell you, it is actually much harder than it looks. TRX suspension training at Pure Moves uses gravity and your own bodyweight to help you develop strength, balance and core stability. Just make sure you clear your schedule for three days afterwards, because you won’t be able to move. No pain, no gain though, right?
Ass And Abs Class At Inspire Fitness
Why is it so much easier for boys to build muscle than girls? It’s just not fair. We ladies would have to do triple the amount of sit-ups if we wanted a six-pack, and 10 times as many squats if we wanted toned glutes. The squad at Inspire Fitness know this all too well, which is why they’ve started their ladies-only classes, one of which is the ass and abs bootcamp. Be prepared to work hard.
Box & Bike
Can’t decide if you want to do a spin class or a boxing class? Do both at Queen Street Gym with their Box & Bike classes. You’ll alternate between boxing on the ‘box-master’ (an interesting contraption that is like a pretend boxing buddy that holds your pads for you) and tearing it up on the spin bikes. Get ready to sweat.
Beach Yoga At Leighton Beach
What better way to soak up all the summer goodness than by starting a beach yoga routine. The lovely people at North Freo’s Mandala Yoga studio are taking outdoor yoga classes at Leighton Beach until April next year. Classes run on the big grass circle just north of the Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club. Then once you’re done, go for a quick dip and grab a coffee from Bib & Tucker.
Imagine if there was a way to get toned without having to do anything? Imagine no more, because Speedfit has come to Perth. We’re not scientists, so we won’t try to explain all the fancy techy-ness of it all—but all you need to know is that 20 minutes of Speedfit is the same as hours in the gym. Where do we sign?
Aerial Classes At Rafters Mind Body Air
Aerial yoga has been around for a while now, but what about aerial pilates? Or aerial stretching? A combination of all of them in an aerial fusion class? Whatever type of activity you would like to perform whilst hanging suspended from a big hammock, the team at Rafters has got you covered.
