Wood Fire Grill

You’ve lived in Noosa how long, and you still haven’t feasted on the goods at Wood Fire Grill? Shame on you.

Alright, we admit it, we were totally in the same boat, until a few weeks ago. Tucked on the waterfront at Quamby Place, it’s kinda in between all the happenings along Hastings Street and in Noosaville. Which makes it like the pot of gold between the ends of a rainbow, or something.

But try it we did, and along the way we found five eatable reasons why you should be adding this place to your “best restaurants in Noosa” hitlist. Keepin’ in mind Wood Fire Grill freshens up their menu every three months, so these faves won’t last forever. Nuh-uh! Made to share, here’s what we’re recommending you get your mouth around. Stat! (Want to score a $200 feast at Wood Fire Grill? Fill out the form at the bottom of the page!)

1. BBQ Chorizo Sausages & Lemon

If chorizo is your sausage of choice, then these giant, 7cm wide chargrilled pieces of meat will set you off. Seriously. Drizzled with fresh lemon juice (we say, squeeze that whole damn wedge, baby), you’ll feel bittersweet when it’s polished off—stoked that you got to know it, and sad that you won’t get to experience it again. Until next time, anyway.

2. Beef Tongue On Toast with Chimichuri & Onion Jam

Sure you’re supposed to share the beef tongue on toast, but meh! With a 48-hour prep time—brine for 24 hours, then slow-cooked for another 24 hours—we doubt you’re gonna let anyone else’s fingers near the plate. Shooo!

3. Smoked Hervey Bay Scallops, Potato & Corn Stuffed Piquillo Peppers with Chermoula

If you can tear your peeps away from the epicness that is Wood Fire Grill—think: polished concrete floors, copper-plated pots housing fiddle leaf figs, weighty timber tables, river views, and the best firewood wrought iron storage display we’ve ever seen—then you’ll be wowed by the presentation of the scallops. Far from what you’d expect, these scallops are served cool, and are iron-bark smoked before being piped into Piquillo peppers, along with corn and potato. Sounds impressive, yeah? Wait ‘til you taste ‘em. Mmmmm!

4. Slow-Cooked Lamb Shoulder with Lemon, Bitter Leaves & Garlic

This place is all about cooking wood fired-style, so you can bet your backyard bbq if you go down the lamb path, it’s going to be spot on. This tasty dish is straight of Wood Fire Grill’s share menu, so be prepared to share this beast of a meal with at least one other hungry guts. Renowned for the smokey flavour of their meats, this plate is bringin’ a whole other level to “falling off the bone”.

5. Roasted Duck with Artichoke Puree, Cavalo Nero, Poached Grapes & Blackberry Jus

Because we could never stop at beef and lamb, we totally took this eating partayyy to the quack corner. Looking like an artwork in itself, if you’re a duck fan there’s no way you’re going to keep your cool when you taste this flavour explosion. Other than the duck, we’re seriously salivating over the poached grapes that take on a sweet “apple pie” kind of taste. The perfect example as to why Wood Fire Grill is rated as one of the best restaurants in Noosa.
