It seems like every time we head to Noosa Junction, a new spot to eat or drink has popped up, and the latest opening, Bombetta, is hands down one of the best.
Just around the corner from the main drag, and a couple of steps up the hill, you can’t miss this epic new spot, opened by Noosa locals, Pascal and Kristie Turschwell.
Pascal has the ultimate foodie pedigree, growing up with a French restaurateur dad who was behind some of Noosa’s first European-style venues—including our all-time fave—Café Le Monde. After a few years in Melbourne, honing his hospo cred, Pascal headed back home to Noosa with wife, Kristie, and the pair gave us hotspots like Hastings Street institution, Gaston.
Bombetta is their latest offering, and we’ve gotta admit, this little Italian gem wouldn’t be out of place on Bourke Street (let’s be honest, it’s way too cool for Hastings Street).
The space is every ounce urban chic, with black subway tiles, high ceilings and polished concrete floors throughout the air-conditioned, split-level venue. We’re low-key obsessed with the copper façade on the wine fridge and genuinely considered stealing the Campari poster to take home with us.
The flexible layout gives you plenty of options—grab a high stool at the L-shaped bar and work your way through the wine list or, if you ask nicely, Pascal might even be able to set you up at one of the tan leather booths where you can settle in for the arvo. People-watchers will want to score an outside table and check out the tanned backpackers and dog-walkers as they head up and down the hill.
And the menu is just as relaxed as the vibe. They’ve embraced the Italian philosophy of using just a couple of quality ingredients and letting them shine. The flavours aren’t for the faint-hearted, with loads of lemon, garlic, chilli and herbs.
It’s hard to go past the classic pizza, but the seafood linguine is already a favourite with the locals. We promise, you’ll have trouble deciding what to order. Book a table for all your mates, so you get to try as many things as possible. Our hot tip? The starters double perfectly as substantial nibbles, so just order one of everything and you can thank us later.
The wine list will convince you to try a glass of everything, with a serious emphasis on Italian classics. If you don’t know your Montepulciano from your Verdicchio, the crew have faithfully sampled all the wines on the list and can point you in the right direction. Ahhh, the sacrifices they make for us!
And the joy of Bombetta isn’t restricted to those of us who have hours to lounge in the bar, sipping an Aperol Spritz and nibbling on prosciutto. They have put together an epic takeaway menu so you can enjoy some of their fave pizza and pasta dishes, while chilling on your own couch in your slippers. There aren’t many spots on the Sunshine Coast where you can pick up a proper Italian pizza for less than $20 but Bombetta comes through! And the gluten-free options mean that your gluten intolerant mates don’t miss out on the fun either.
These guys have been crazy busy since they threw open their doors a couple of weeks ago, so make sure you book a table, because they live by the motto ‘keep ‘em wanting more’. Bombetta is only open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday plus Friday and Saturday lunch. This means you see the same crew in the kitchen and on the floor every time you come in, and you’re guaranteed quality, VIP service no matter whether it’s the beginning or the end of the week. Just another thing to love, really.
