Teased way back in 2017, the IKEA X Virgil Abloh rug collab is due to hit Australian IKEA stores this month.
The low pile rug, which features a traditional Persian-style floral pattern in deep blue and charcoal, is slashed with bright Off-White-style typography that reads “KEEP OFF”.
“I wanted an ironic take on the traditional attitude to furnishing where the living room is just a showroom, not somewhere you sit,” Abloh said in a statement.
As for how you can get your hands on this super limited edition collab, the hype is real, so it’s not quite as simple as click and collect. It’s not even as simple as winding your way through your local IKEA maze, becoming disorientated and purchasing a bunch of homewares you never knew you needed.
In order to own Abloh’s hyped rug, you’ll need to become an IKEA Family member, and then enter a ballot. If you’re successful in the ballot, you’ll be notified by email and will have a limited amount of time to drop into your nearest store to shop the “KEEP OFF” rug for a cool $799. Enter the ballot right here.
If you miss out, IKEA has you covered with seven other artistic limited-edition rug collabs. Among those that will be available alongside Abloh’s, is a big cat rug from Japanese artist Misaki Kawai, a flatwoven graphic rug from Koren-French artist Seulgi Lee and absolutely incredible serpent-shaped carpet from French artist Supakitch. Check them all out here.
