It may be dubbed the 'Death Dish' among MasterChefs, but if you get risotto right, it's pretty darn delicious. We scoped out Sydney's finest Italian restaurants in our hunt for the perfect risotto in Sydney because, let's be honest, if these chefs can't cook it, no one can! Happily, we found six creamy, delicious bowls to satisfy even the sternest of judges. Here are our picks for the best risotto in Sydney.

Ormeggio at The Spit | Mosman

At Alessandro Pavoni's waterfront Italian restaurant, contemporary and traditional flavours unite, garnering the restaurant numerous accolades, including Two Chef Hats in Sydney Morning Herald's Good Food Guide. You'd want to try everything on the menu at least once, but our pick of the lot is the 'carnaroli smoked risotto al salto' of charcoal mackerel and roasted capsicum paprika—Ormeggio at The Spit is definitely worthy of a spot on the list of the best risotto in Sydney!

Balla | Pyrmont

For a fine dining Italian experience in Sydney look no further than Balla at The Star. The brainchild of renowned chef Stefano Manfredi, the menu gives traditional Italian cuisine a contemporary bent. The risotto with pumpkin, goat's cheese, and rosemary is what dreams are made of.

Pappardelle Ristorante | Haberfield

Situated in the heart of Sydney's little Italy, Pappardelle Ristorante puts a modern twist on classic Italian cuisine with tasty offerings such as brandy-infused prawn risotto topped with fresh chilli, onions, and shallots in a creamy Napolitano sauce. Perfect on a cold winter night!

Otto Ristorante | Woolloomooloo

Undeniably one of Sydney's best Italian restaurants, Otto Ristorante offers breathtaking waterfront views over Woolloomooloo alongside the delectable flavours of Italy. Order the risotto 'Quattro Fromaggi' created with aged Acquerello rice, Gorgonzola, Pecorino, Taleggio and Parmesan because, CHEESE.

Jamie's Italian | CBD

Jamie Oliver can do no wrong. From celebrity chef and restaurateur to health-food ambassador and all-round nice guy—we are big fans of Jamie's quest for a global food revolution. It's no secret than that you expect exceptional Italian fare at his Sydney outpost Jamie's Italian, but during the winter months you can't go past his truffle risotto with Parmesan and nutmeg, or the creamy crab and squid-ink risotto with herby breadcrumbs. Does Jamie do the best risotto in Sydney? Possibly.

Vanto | CBD

Still looking for the best risotto in Sydney? Vanto prides itself on offering an authentic Italian dining experience, with regional Italian chefs at the kitchen's helm. The seasonal menu is brimming with classic dishes that showcase the freshest local ingredients and imported Italian foods. You can't go past the risotto of crab, saffron, green peas, and a touch of mint. It's pretty damn good.
