What To Do On New Year’s Day In Sydney

By Amanda Perez - 18 Dec 2015

In times of NYE whiplash, many of us languish away on the couch, feeling a whole lot ‘ek’ while watching lawn bowls on the telly. To start your year in the right gear, we’ve rustled up the most delicious haps in Sydney. Shake it off and shake it up!

The Surf Lodge at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel

Famed for its outdoor summer concert series, US Hamptons venue The Surf Lodge is shacking up with Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel to kick off the new year together! Get into this one-day beach party and enjoy a legendary line-up, headlined by Michigan-born singer songwriter BØRNS, joined by a host of local Aussie bosses like Set Mo ft. Deutsch Duke, Motorik Vibe Council, Oli Benz, Dangerous Dan, Mo’ Funk, and Cloud Rider. Tickets start from $99 pp.

Beach, Please at Daniel San Manly

Daniel San reckons that the best way to wake up to a new year is with killer house beats and a 180-degree views of sunshiny Manly beach. Dojo’s Rooftop will be raisin’ the roof from 1pm, with a show headlined by local mix masters Fear of Dawn. Send in your guest list and you’ll snap up free entry (prior to 3pm), a special fun-time area, and a complimentary drink for you and your pals.

Pei Modern’s NYD Brunch

If you partied enough last night and want to collapse into a comfortable chair in front of a delicious meal, Pei Modern is the bunch you want for your NYD brunch. Long and leisurely, from 11am-2.30pm you can ease your way into a new year. With a glass of Australian sparkling wine in hand, relax, refuel, and rejoice with eggs benedict, buttermilk pancakes with blueberry maple syrup, pork and fennel sausages, gourmet salads, freshly-baked pastries and sweets, and hangover cure juices. Hangover juices? Comforting carbs? Oh Pei Modern, you had us at ‘sitting down.’ Tickets $70 pp.

Field Day

Australian Institution of live music and general fun, Field Day is back, kicking out Carols in The Domain and pumping it up with the high-energy antics of house, hip-hop, indie, and electronica that it’s so well-known for. Home to a massive line-up this year, you can expect to catch (at least a glimpse of) Disclosure, Flight Facilities, Golden Features, Seth Troxler, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, The Avener, Sam Feldt, Set Mo, The Wombats, Pusha T, San Cisco, and about a kajillion more artists. Frolic about in the grass, slip slop slap, and help Field Day support great music and Heaps Decent, a charity providing underprivileged young people with access to opportunities in the music industry. Tickets start from $145 pp.
