God bless the BrisAsia Festival. Every year it brings us a well-needed dose of culture via its many splendid and varied events throughout Brisbane. One event that getting us particularly excited this year is the rooftop party and alfresco screening of Studio Ghibli’s The Tale of Princess Kaguya—and not just because we’re hardcore fans of moon babies found in bamboo shoots.
The screening is all part of their larger party to ring in the new Lunar Year over at Sunnybank Plaza. 2018 is the year of the dog (symbolising honesty, loyalty and a little wet nose) so we’re already thrilled to the gills about what the coming year has in store, and this shindig is suitably decked out to meet our rampant enthusiasm. As well as the film, there will also be a street market, a gallery of Asian art, a games den and even a lantern workshop. Then the feature will be rounded out with a firework display because it just wouldn’t be a new year without a Catherine wheel.
The film starts at sundown but the party kicks off from 4pm, so make sure you get there early to nab a good seat; this is a free event worth paying for and it’s going to fill up quick.
