Anyone who’s ever wrapped their lips around a heavenly bao at this Miami Marketta stall, or during a pop-up appearance at Cambus Wallace, will agree this is something worth getting excited about.
Gold Coast’s very own bao experts, Lucky Bao have just released word they’ve secured a lease on Mermaid Waters’ Markeri Street and will soon be opening the Coast’s first dedicated bao restaurant and bar. Say what?!
Now that you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor, you’ll have to wait patiently while they fit-out their new permanent home to pillowy-soft gua bao, with plans to open by December. In the interim, start dreaming about confit pork belly and crackle, tempura soft-shell crab with Asian slaw, or Taiwanese fried chicken, all stuffed inside a steamed bun (AKA clouds of deliciousness). While their famous bao will be the star of the show, there’s plenty of other sweet goodness planned for Lucky Bao’s menu, with influences of Taiwanese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cuisine.
Created by Daud and Emmi Kendall—Daud has quite the culinary resume as the current head chef of hatted Broadbeach restaurant, Social Eating House—they’ll be dishing up Lucky Bao’s legendary bao, along with a tasty array of bar snacks and share plates. Opening seven days for lunch, dinner, and takeaway; it’ll be a fully-licensed venue with cocktails, wine, and both Asian and boutique beers served to their outdoor deck.
