By Stephanie Newsham - 07 Sep 2016

There are certain milestones in life you want to reach, goals to achieve, experiences to enjoy.

These may include seeing Rome for the first time, learning that second language, or perhaps your first terrifying bungee jump, and we support all that.

However, here at Metropolist, we simply love food and have formulated a special, food-related bucket list for you to tick off because appreciating the simple things in life, like the perfect union of chocolate and pastry, is what it’s all about. So get those appetites and stretchiest pants at the ready as we give you the low-down on your very own bucket list of the best desserts on the Gold Coast.

Funnel Cakes | Burgster
One of our fave spots to grab a burger, Burgster at Palm Beach is serving up a very fine example of a one of the best desserts on the Gold Coast—the funnel cake. Flavours change weekly so you’ll obviously need to return again (and again) to sample them all. One of our latest faves: fried doughy goodness topped with salted caramel sauce, ice cream, cream, and popcorn. Drool.

Banoffee Jaffles | Sparrow Eating House
The humble jaffle never tasted so good with Sparrow Eating House at Nobbys dishing up the goods. Sparrow’s famous banoffee jaffle, served with your own pot of salted caramel sauce in which to drown said jaffle, is the perfect way to finish your meal and one bucket list dessert that you need to tick off, STAT.

Nutella Bomba | Gemelli
No big deal but on the menu at Gemelli, you can find one of the best examples of a Nutella-containing dessert you’re likely to find anywhere on the Gold Coast. The delectable Bomba is lovingly handmade Sicilian pastry, filled with Nutella and then deep-fried for your eating pleasure. You’re welcome.

Valrhona Sphere | Room81
If fine dining is not your thing, trust us, at the very least you need to make a visit to Sofitel’s Room81 for the post-dinner sweet treats. Chef de Cuisine Sam Moore’s culinary creations will ruin you for life, specifically his signature Valrhona Sphere that’s currently filled with raspberry, hazelnut, and salted caramel. Are these some of the best desserts on the Gold Coast? We think so!

Pimped Up Meringues | Reid Street Kitchen
We wish NightQuarter night markets was in our hood, but for lucky northerners you can feast on sugary treats by Reid Street Kitchen any damn weekend. So which bucket list dessert do you need to devour first? A Pimped Up Meringue stuffed with cream, smashed strawberry Oreos, raspberries, dark chocolate, and a syringe full of raspberry coulis. Get ‘em before they disappear.

Almond Milk Doughnut | Jimmy Wah’s
One of our go-to spots for a fantastic Vietnamese-inspired feed is Burleigh’s Jimmy Wah’s. Surely you’ve been there by now? We’re quite sure there is no better way to finish off a meal than with their almond milk doughnut served with palm sugar caramel and peanut ice cream. Kicking goals, Jimmy!

Pain au Chocolat | Bam Bam Bakehouse
Sometimes, simple is best and when it’s done right, you don’t need no bells and whistles to make a dessert great. The simply beautiful Pain au Chocolat will make your taste buds sing as you appreciate the art of covering gorgeous Belgian chocolate in to-die-for buttery, flaky pastry, warm out of the oven. Perfection. Their drool-worthy selection of dessert pots are also high on our list of faves.

Red Velvet Pancakes | The Loose Moose
Okay, so a big stack of warm, fluffy pancakes is generally one of our favourite go-to brekky options, but who says dessert can’t be eaten at 8am? With this logic, we reckon one of the best desserts on the Gold Coast has got to be the Red Velvet Pancakes at The Loose Moose. These beauties are served with chocolate soil, mascarpone, raspberry coulis, toasted pistachios, and fresh strawberries. Trust us, you’re gonna love ‘em.

A killer menu plus incredible views means we are one lucky community of foodies to have a place such as Rick Shores in our midst! Fab pizza? Check! Excellent pasta? Check! Fantastic desserts? You know it! You may very well be aware that Justin Lane does some of the best desserts on the Gold Coast and no bucket list would be complete without Justin’s Chocolate Salty Balls. Beautifully crisp, deep-fried arancini balls filled with our favourite dessert filling: Nutella, sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts. Nice balls, Justin!

Do yourself a favour and track down an Oreozasm at Burleigh’s best burger joint, Ze Pickle. You’ll be thinking that life is pretty much complete as you scoff those Oreos deep-fried in doughnut batter, drowned in liquid Nutella and ice cream. What’ll these guys think of next?
