Aww Shucks! | Where To Find $1 Oyster Happy Hours On The Gold Coast

By Brooke Darling - 10 Jun 2016

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who love oysters and shuck them back with serious gusto.

And then, of course, there are those who pinch their noses and turn their heads at the mere sight of an oyster. You can probably guess which team we’re on. So, if you’re also a fan of a bargain, keep reading. ‘Cause we’ve found four spots serving up $1 oysters on the Gold Coast (or nearby).

Burgster

Crafting some of the best burgers on the Gold Coast is apparently not enough for the friendly Kiwi bros at one of our all-time Palm Beach faves, Burgster. Not only is their $1 oyster happy hour three salty hours deep—every Friday between 3pm and 6pm (or until sold out)—but these guys go one better and always shuck in-house for maximum freshness. Still hungry? When you’ve had your fill of oysters, head straight for the burger loaded with Moreton Bay bug tails and wash it down with a draught Balter XPA.

When: Fridays, 3pm to 6pm (or until sold out)
Where: 4 Phillipine Parade, Palm Beach

Aloha Bar and Dining

In case you needed another reason to love this funky cocktail-swilling pad in the back alleys of Broadbeach, every Sunday from 5pm to 7pm Aloha Bar and Dining’s fresh Sydney Rock oysters go on special for $1 a pop. Fun fact: the current record holder downed 55 of the slippery little suckers—surely someone got some post oyster feast lovin’ that night?

When: Sundays, 5pm to 7pm (or until sold out)
Where: 18 Main Place, Broadbeach

Coolangatta Hotel

From 5pm every Wednesday, the Coolangatta Hotel welcomes southerners to help themselves to as many oysters as they can handle. With a tiny one buck-a-roo per half-shell price tag ($1.50 for Kilpatrick), it’s no surprise this Cooly institution packs out on hump day. Only catch is, you must order your $1 oysters in rounds of six (no complaints here) together with a main meal for later. Wednesday night dinner date = sorted.

When: Wednesdays, from 5pm (until sold out)
Where: Corner Warner Street and Marine Parade, Coolangatta

Balcony Bar and Oyster Co.

Okay, before you throw your hands in the air in protest, yep, this joint is NOT on the Gold Coast. But, because Byron is our adopted free-spirited lil’ bro across the border, this place is totally deserving of a mid-week pit stop for their delish oysters. We fell in love with Balcony Bar and Oyster Co. when visiting the revamped eatery last year—hello, décor envy! If you can time your visit to Byron right, freshly-shucked oysters sell for $1 each every Wednesday between 5pm and 6pm. Better yet, get in early to pair your oysters with sunset happy hour specials on drinks and select cocktails from 4pm ‘til 6pm.

When: Wednesdays, 5pm to 6pm (or until sold out)
Where: Corner Jonson Street and Lawson Street, Byron Bay
