As Voted By You | Best Baristas On The Gold Coast

By Brooke Darling - 08 Jun 2016

Where would the Gold Coast be without baristas?

Let’s ponder that thought for a moment. Or not… it makes our not-yet-caffeinated brains hurt just thinking about it. You too?

Here at Metropolist, we love bringing you the GC’s best coffee haunts and breakfast offerings, but, sometimes, we like to hand over the reigns and let YOU tell US who you think deserves a moment in the spotlight.

There’s no denying we have a wealth of passionately talented baristas on the Coast, so we’re sending a collective high five to each and every one of them. But, if you’re looking to stray from your regular or mix it up this week, you can’t go wrong with any of these cafés and their respective caffeine kings and queens, AKA the best baristas on the Gold Coast, as voted by you.

Drum roll… in NO particular order, here are your faves:

Blackboard Coffee | Varsity Lakes

According to you, these legends have some serious hospo swagger and, as one of Metropolist HQ’s suburban neighbours, we must wholeheartedly agree. Blackboard is a brand that’s synonymous with the Gold Coast coffee scene so it’s no surprise their in-house baristas are up there with the best. You love them all pretty much equally, but today we’re sending special props to Sam Witjaksono and Chase Bowmast. Cheers, boys!

Espresso Moto | Palm Beach

Gold Coast’s café culture continues to grow thanks to the marvellous work of the baristas at Palm Beach institution, Espresso Moto. Metropolist readers are particularly fond of the lovely Claire McNamara, yet whoever is grinding and frothing on the day of your visit rest assured you’ll be in safe hands, ‘cause their service is some of the best in town.

Paradox Coffee Roasters | Surfers Paradise

We love coffee. But more than coffee, we love passion. And despite its cavernous digs, Paradox Coffee Roasters is bursting with heart. A busy in-house roasting facility, open-to-the-public cupping sessions, and practically every variation of brewing known to man, ensures this Surfers Paradise coffee house bears some serious caffeine cred. There’s no such thing as a bad brew here, so pop in for a hug in a mug from one of your Paradox faves, Dylan Moore.

Hide ‘n’ Seek Espresso | Miami

Nothing beats service with a smile, and that’s what you’ll get day in, day out at this little backwater gem. Much-loved baristas owner Mark, Rosie, and Tom are religiously pouring some of the best coffee on the Gold Coast (complete with tasting notes) and it’s their faultlessly personable service and soul-warming brews that keep their regulars regular. High five team Hide ‘n’ Seek!

Base Espresso | Broadbeach

Today, an education in the art and science of the perfect brew is essential, as are some wicked latte art skills. Just like the wizardry found at Base Espresso and from its main man, Timothy Sweet. His foamy creations even have a dedicated Insta page where Timothy generously shares his tips. #coffeeporn

Warehouse No. 5 | Burleigh Heads

Already garnering a loyal fan base after a few short months in business, this epic new (read: FREE) co-working space has its very own in-house coffee bar and is home to one of the best baristas on the Gold Coast, as voted by Metropolist readers. Manning the barista station most days is the charming Samuel Riley, who keeps those local creatives and entrepreneurs visiting Warehouse No. 5 caffeinated and firing on all cylinders. And for that Samuel, we salute you.

Good Day Coffee | Tugun

You can always count on turning a bad day on its head with help from the cool crew at Tugun fave, Good Day Coffee. Somewhat of a legend among GDC regulars, you showered Mr. Deejay Swan with votes, but in all truth, the entire team got the two thumbs up from savvy Metropolist readers. You guys know what’s up!

Iron and Resin Garage | Currumbin

Here at Metropolist, we love to roll on two wheels on the weekends, so we were stoked to see Iron and Resin’s Sam slipped into your list of awesome GC baristas. Serving up some of the best coffee on the Gold Coast in an equally sick little café cum biker hangout cum moto apparel shop, Sundays are your best bet to visit when Iron and Resin is hopping with the sounds of live acoustics, rumbling engines, and the aromas of a visiting food truck.

Caffeine Kings | Miami

On the main drag in Miami is where you’ll find another colourful local fave, Caffeine Kings. Our readers have spoken with their keyboards, nominating James Wren as deserving of a crown among the best baristas on the Gold Coast. Let it be known they also make a mad espresso martini, now open Thursday through Sunday evenings as the aptly named Night Caps.

Tribeca NYC | Chevron Island

Not only do the good folk at Tribeca NYC make some of the best ribs, wings, and bagels on the Gold Coast, but turns out you guys reckon they’ve got some friendly baristas on hand to bridge the gap between #coffeetime and #ribstime. Owners Shannon, Brandon, and mum Carolyn forever have our respect, but they’re backed by a strong little team too. And when it comes to your morning coffee hit you’re particularly fond of the dynamic trio Bronwyn, Zoey, and Rachael. Haven’t checked Tribeca NYC out for yourself yet? Shame on you!
