With two thriving restaurants already under their belt, brothers Alec, James and Paul aspired to create a social meeting place for the neighbourhood of Sorrento, where residents could wine and dine without needing to drive or book a babysitter. With a menu bursting with Gemelli classics and authentic recipes from the motherland, for the rest of us, a drive into the backwaters of Broadbeach is definitely worth it to sample one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast. Oh, and did we mention it’s BYO?

Widely respected for his handiwork at family-owned Luigi & Sons barbershop, with over 30 years experience, Joey D’Adderio has expanded into a totally unique and versatile 376m2 warehouse in Bundall. Now the home base for Luigi & Sons’ mobile barbershop caravan, this concept barbershop boasts retro lounges, a pool table and pinball machines, industrial styling, vintage vibes, plus a silver Airstream that doubles as a bar—and regularly morphs into a rad backdrop for weddings and character-charged events. Ensuring this Gold Coast barber is more than just a place to get a haircut—Mobile Barber Shop Depot is a social community hub and the pride and joy of a talented man who infectiously lives and breathes his craft.

If you love natural, totally gorge hair then we’ve found the salon for you. At Gilston Four, the team are all about embracing your own beauty and know just how to take your locks to the next level. The intimate salon has only, yep you guessed it, four chairs, so you’re always made to feel super spesh, whether that be having your champagne glass constantly topped up or sampling one of owner Jason’s daily sweet treats—his creations are just as incredible as his hairdressing skills, delish! The space oozes luxury with sheer black curtains, lush hanging greenery and pendant lights. But despite its swanky appearance you won’t find an ounce of pretence here. You might arrive a stranger, but you’ll leave feeling like one of the family—and looking like a goddess.

Isle of Capri's Barber Bros & Co. is a hands down favourite among Gold Coast locals. This stylish team of passionate barbers live and breathe their trade, so it’s little wonder gents flock to this traditional full-service barber shop for beard scaping, perfectly manicured moustaches, hot towel cut throat shaves, and expert rockabilly and hipster hair styling. We know you won’t knock back a complimentary JD or Corona while you’re there, either; these are the kinda guys all other barbers aspire to. Walk ins only. 

Say hello to Fu Manchu’s little sister, Madam Fu. And we promise she’s just as awesome as you’d hope. 

Almond milk on tap, self-serve nut butters and over 400 different cheeses are just the beginning of what Harris Farm Markets has to offer. Starting their Queensland presence in Clayfield late last year, the gourmet food market has recently opened its flavour-filled doors on the Isle of Capri. At their first Gold Coast store, you can expect a gourmet grocery section of boutique local products, an extensive deli and more than 400 cheeses displayed in their famous Cheese Lane. Cheese Lane is a thing and we're here for it.

This hidden gem, located on Clear Island Waters, might have an unassuming façade but their menu will keep you coming back for more. Home to their famous Coco Fluff, a vegan, coconut-based soft-serve (that’s also DF and GF), the eatery’s bowls are a must eat. 

Quickly earning itself a cult following on the Gold Coast, the line frequently snaking out the door and the full tables at Matteo’s Woodfired Pizza are testament to Matteo Finotto, the culinary genius behind this Italian gem. A cosy hidden gem in Clear Island Waters and one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast, Matteo’s is dishing up Italian just like Nonna made. 

Emerald Lakes is a mini city within a city that oozes European charm and at the beating heart of this community is Cabukee. Loved for their welcoming smiles, zucchini fritters and coffee brewed every which way under the sun, quality cafe options are sparse in this pocket of the Coast, though the cool crew at Cabukee fills the gap nicely and is pooch-friendly to boot.

When it comes to Asian cuisine we’re kind of spoilt for choice on the Coast. But we think it’s time to draw your attention to a hidden gem that’s been quietly nailing it for years… we’re banging on about Arakawa, of course! 

Chevron Island’s Tribeca NYC is named after the hip neighbourhood in downtown Manhattan with a world-renowned dining scene and inner-city loft living. It was the first true American dining establishment to open on the Gold Coast, and we can attest, is still one of the best. Tribeca NYC’s extensive menu strongly lends itself to share-style dining, which we totally urge you do, to ensure you can try as many dishes as possible in one sitting. Think: flame-grilled New York steak, Rueben sandwiches, gourmet mac and cheese, ridic burgers or their legendary BBQ rib night on Wednesdays, where 20 buckaroos gets you a full rack of pork ribs, fries and house slaw—but book early!

Fu Manchu Oriental Kitchen on Surfers Paradise’s Chevron Island has a true Asian fusion menu that morphs from devout traditions to dishes with a European twist. Hiding behind an unassuming London shop front-style facade, Fu Manchu is totally where we want to hang on our next date night, with a dark and moody supper club-ish interior that lends itself to getting cosy and just a lil’ bit boozy. Our tip? Fu Manchu’s Singapore chilli crab and sticky Asian beef short ribs are life changing. 

When a talented pastry chef and their business savvy partner team up to create a chic patisserie cafe, you know you’re going to be in for quite the treat and that is definitely the case with Dipcro Pastry. 

It’s no secret that bagels are making a major comeback and we’re here for it. A good bagel has the power to make an ordinary day great and O Bagel in Broadbeach is certainly doing that for their hordes of bagel-loving followers.

The Gold Coast is renowned for boasting stunning vistas, but it doesn’t get much better than at Horizon Sky Dining. Formerly Four Winds 360 Revolving Restaurant, the beloved Gold Coast icon has been reborn as Horizon Sky Dining, with 360-degree revolving views sitting sky-high above Surfers Paradise. 

Gold Coast is no stranger to minimalistic (yet beautiful) cafes, but Nan’s Coffee brings something you don’t see every day to the table. Nan’s Coffee is one of the prettiest dog-friendly cafes on the Gold Coast, letting you bring along a furry friend to enjoy your morning with. Located near Spot Apartments, happy dog-loving partners Hannah and Jamiti have created a cafe that has everything you could need.

Joining the Gold Coast’s collection of impressive cafes with top-tier coffee comes Banksy Bar & Kitchen. Throw in a slick, industrial fit-out in the mix and you’ve got yourself a winner. And by winner, we mean a cafe you’ll want to come back to again, and again. 

The second you step inside Voco you’ll feel a sense of calm—which is ironic given its amazing location right in the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. That’s probably down to its recent makeover which has breathed new life into the building—crisp white furnishings and touches of nautical navy and pops of fresh yellow. It’s coastal chic and we’re digging it. 

Cavernous with vaulted ceilings, moody lighting, red brick and industrial finishings, Paradox Coffee Roasters, in the funky The 4217 complex, is the kind of cafe that excites those with a lusting desire for warehouses and contemporary design. With its own onsite commercial bean roastery and the finest baristas in the biz, come for the smooth coffee and stay for some of the best breakfasts in Surfers Paradise.

Southport's Blendlove has mastered the art of turning wholesome ingredients into mouth-watering, all-natural desserts. This is soul food at its finest. Take away a gorgeous gift pack of delicate raw delights, for a present, or yourself, or hang out with the divine staff over coffee, a spot of nourishing lunch, or a healthy spin on breakfast to start the day right. Hands down one of the best cafes on the Gold Coast's northern end, you're in good hands at Blendlove. 

The Pink Flamingo is the world's first Spiegelclub, with nightly performances every Wednesday through Saturday night. Promising a touch of burlesque and a hint of Vegas—with performers handpicked from all corners of the globe including Russia, US, UK, Mexico and a sprinkle of home-grown talent—expect mind-spinning aerials, cirque-style acrobatics, sexy choreography, sultry vocal solos, tight buns, ripped abs, feathers, glitter and a dose of laugh-out-loud cabaret comedy.

A little slice of old New York in the streets of Surfers Paradise, Brooklyn Depot is an original front-runner among the best burgers on the Gold Coast. Though not one to rest on their laurels, they’ve plunged deep into the heart of the borough, uncovering the true meaning of Brooklyn nosh, because research. And it comes in the shape of a new menu featuring corn beef hash egg rolls, chicken ‘n waffles, shrimp and grits tacos, plus their famed OTT burgers including the Fuhgeddaboudit with a grass-fed beef pattie, onion rings and injectable hot sauce. Not to mention our fave newbie: mac ‘n cheese—with lobster!

Salt Meats Cheese in Surfers Paradise is a hot contender among the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast. This vibrant, casual bistro serves up classic, tasty Italian cuisine with some special twists thrown in for good measure—spaghetti served from a wheel of cheese, anyone? Start your meal off with a loaded platter of imported cheese and cured meats then move onto their range of delicious pastas. On a budget? Salt Meats Cheese’s weekly $10 lunch special gets you a personal woodfired pizza with a glass of vino or beer for just five bucks more or, go for $25 all-you-can-eat pizza on Mondays. We call bargain. Oh, and did we mention they offer regular pizza and pasta-making masterclasses? 

In seriously delicious news for Broadbeach locals, cult-fave Mexican restaurant Costa Taco has opened in Broady and we couldn't be more excited. It has ignited Broadbeach's dining scene, breathing new energy into the iconic yellow building on the corner of Armrick Avenue, proving that sometimes the most mouthwatering revivals come wrapped in a tortilla.

This striking, sun-drenched venue—with its Tasmanian Oak and pressed metal bar, salvaged hardwood beams lining high ceilings and dreamy cluster of rattan pendant lights completing the magazine-worthy backdrop—has just filled a gaping hole in the hearts of the Coast’s social northern set. Located in Benowa, Double Barrel Kitchen & Bar has an enviable waterfront location and lounge-worthy deck chairs out front—a special setting that simply draws you in to linger.
