It’s back, guys! Barefoot Cinema is popping its way into our hearts from December through February, and this time it’s coming to Melbourne proper.
If you missed it last year, Barefoot is a pop-up cinema on Point Nepean, the brainchild of local Peninsula boy Julian Grant and his partner Yuliana Acevedo Rodriguez. They’d been dreaming of starting a cinema for years, and the wild, windswept scrubland of Portsea’s Nepean National Park seemed like a no-brainer.
The event went OFF, and they’re back this year with two new locations: Seawinds Gardens in Arthurs Seat and Rippon Lea Estate in Elsternwick.
“The Commanding Officer’s House in Point Nepean National Park was our first location and it’s truly spectacular,” Yuliana says. “It’s Portsea's best-kept secret, with not many people, even locals, having been there before.”
Here’s what you can expect. Stunning views (that’s a given), food trucks galore, live tunes and a solid line-up of cult flicks like Rocky and Dirty Dancing, plus some modern classics like Bad Moms and Bridget Jones’ Baby (okay, so the threshold for ‘classic’ isn’t what it was...). Stonier are bringing the local wine, and Gage Roads will be slinging award-winning craft beers as the sun goes down. There’s even a boutique candy bar.
The season runs from 26 December through to 16 February, depending on the location. You can check the schedule here.
