Layers of mud cake in dreamy flavours—rose and pistachio, honeycomb, maple and fig–glossy glazes and chocolate drips, meringue kisses, praline shards, macarons and edible flowers… our love for cake has reached insatiable heights.
Whether you’re treating yourself for no good reason grab ‘n’ go style, settling into a slice or two with a friend, or ordering a bespoke creation for a special occasion, these are the best cake shops on the Sunshine Coast.
Let’s be honest, we’re pretty lucky here on the Sunshine Coast, because Tome has gained attention from cake lovers all over, thanks to their insanely stunning cakes. But what their social followers can only eat with their eyes, we can actually eat with our mouths, and an empty plate licked clean is far greater appreciation than a double tap on Insta. It’s the picture-perfect presentation, the delectable flavours and the attention to detail chief baker Alita O’Brien puts into every morsel—from skyscraping layer cakes to individual baked cheesecakes and mini cakes. There really is no place like Tome and that’s why they’ve landed a definite spot in our roundup of the best cake shops on the Sunshine Coast.
Soul Kitchen Bakery
The newest kid on the cake block is Soul Kitchen Bakery, which has just re-opened its doors at a brand spanking new site in Buderim. Owners Shirley and Hugh Forster have created a space that is cute and quirky, serving fingerlicking delicious vegan and gluten free sweet treats, so everyone can have their cake and eat it too. With crowd favourites including Oreo cheesecake and lemon meringue pie, their piece de resistance is the Snickers cake—moist and fudgy chocolate mud cake, peanut butter frosting, homemade caramel and chocolate drip, toffee shards and freshly roasted peanuts.
The Silva Spoon
The cake selection at The Silva Spoon has the love and attention to detail of a home bake, but with an elevation of refinery, and that’s what we love most about it. The flavour combos are always a cut above, especially when it comes to their daily showstoppers. Some of our recent favourites include sweet potato, date and cinnamon layer cake; rhubarb and apple layer cake with white chocolate; and honeycomb, peanut and cacao nib. Settle into a slice with a pot of your favourite brew (they have one of the largest tea offerings on the Sunshine Coast), or grab a whole cake to go. We won’t judge!
Stormie D’s Cupcakery
Looking for something scrumptious with a side serving of sass, then Stormie D’s Cupcakery is your jam when it comes to the best cake shops on the Sunshine Coast. Stormie is a self-taught baker/cake decorator serving a salivating selection of cupcakes made fresh daily including red velvet, salted caramel and death by chocolate (these are known to sell out, so get in quick!), as well as whipping up bespoke cakes made to order. Stormie D’s also offers kids’ cupcake decorating workshops and parties, so the littles can learn how to make crazy cool cuppies.
It’s a good thing there is always time for dessert at Cafe Silo, because their cake offerings are simply sublime. Taking the traditional to a tasty new level… think fresh and warm carrot cake with walnuts and cinnamon, black forest cake with dark chocolate and cherries, espresso torte–all decorated with edible flowers and microgreens from our friends over at The Greenshed. They also have a mouthwatering range of vegan cakes. Take your pick from the bakes of the day and enjoy with a cuppa, or take home a made to order masterpiece. It’s a delicious decision no matter which way you slice it.
