Breakfast in Sydney is a big deal. And our mothers always told us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So skip your crusty Vegemite on toast and head to these Sydney cafés that are sure to get you up and running in the tastiest way possible.
Marcelle’s new menu
The onslaught of winter means that leaving the doona and PJs behind is your day’s toughest tests of willpower (just one more snooze!). Never fear, because Marcelle’s omelette with goat's curd, baby spinach, and white polenta porridge with a pear, rhubarb & ginger compote are beacons of toasty warm hope.
Room Two Ten
A Northern Beaches favourite, located along Freshwater’s quaint little sidewalk is Room Two Ten and they are on a mission to help you start the day the right way. Embrace your inner kid with a serving of their famous ricotta pancakes with banana and maple syrup and pair it with a salted caramel or mint slice milkshake. If you’re feeling a little bit hungover or just on the go, the trusty bacon and egg roll with house made chilli aioli and pesto is sure to solve all your problems.
Bondi Hardware’s new menu
Bondi’s resident breakfast king is celebrating the beginning of the cooler months with a brand spanking new breakfast menu. There’s the Hardware granola, served with coconut quinoa and poached seasonal fruit and yoghurt. If you’re feeling particularly inventive, the DIY breakfast of two free range eggs served on Luxe sourdough with your choice of 11 (yes, 11!) sides for $4.50, is probably a goer for you. Feel like eggs benedict or smoked huon river salmon? No problem. What about free range black forest bacon or an avocado smash? Hardware’s got you covered.
Just off bustling Harris Street lies the warm and friendly Penny Café. Owned by brother and sister, Martin Morgan and Penelope Morgan, the emphasis here is on a homemade and seasonal menu. The avocado bash is always a hit with locals as is the maple and apple toasted muesli. If you’re after something a bit more… well, fatty, just ask for bacon. Because bacon makes everything better.
Tea aficionados take note: T Totaler’s tea goddess Amber Hudson has been on a mission to bring fresh, specially blended and non-processed tea into the spotlight. With a menu that is perfectly matched to T Totaler’s specialty teas, pick one of their delicious blends and have it served hot or cold, and choose between varieties that promise to give you an immune boost, that much needed pick me up or some relaxation time. Match these teas with their tea inspired breakfast menu and you’ve got yourself a winner.
Relish Food Co.
Relish Food Co. may be renowned for their delicious sandwiches, pies and other lunch items but their tasty breakfast ought not to be missed. A bacon and egg roll and the delicious banana bread with ricotta and organic honey are standouts but if you’re after something warm, Sydney café Relish could be your new go-to breakfast spot in Surry Hills.
L’Americano Espresso Bar
Located within the furniture palace that is Coco Republic lies L’Americano Espresso Bar, Alexandria’s latest breakfast mecca. Serving up some delicious Vittoria coffee with a simple but effective menu, there’s also a whole host of egg dishes, served with the dependably delicious soft boiled egg – choose between the avocado, feta, tomato and basil, nduja, aioli and pickled onion, or the roasted red and yellow peppers with pesto and almonds. Sounds like the perfect morning out.
Ananas Bar & Brasserie
If you’re a chronic late riser, Ananas doesn’t mind because the champagne brunch is back! On 31st May, bottomless Moet (yes please), a roaming-style menu and live entertainment await their guests. Bookings are essential for one of Sydney’s best (champagne) breakfasts, so get in quick.
