Beauty Trends We Wish Would Come Back In Style

By Rachel Stevenson - 21 Apr 2015

Ah, the 90s and naughties; so many beauty mistakes were made, but trends were so much more fun back then! We mean, who didn’t enjoy experimenting with bold coloured eyeshadows, a ridiculous amount of hairclips and all of the glitter?!

Now that we’re a bit older and (we like to hope) beauty-wiser, we’d love to bring back some of those trends to play with. Here are five we, at The Urban List, would love to see come back into style, if only so we have an excuse to wear glitter again!

Crimped hair

We don’t know about you, but we spend literally hours of our lives trying to get volumised hair, but to little or no avail. Not a problem with crimped hair though! And how much fun was it braiding your hair into tiny little plaits and leaving it to dry overnight? We can’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday evening, frankly.

Not ready to bust out the crimper? Try De Lorenzo’s Instant Accentu8 range for maxi-volume.

Peel-off nail polish

There’s nothing worse than chipped nail polish, and who really has the time to constantly be taking polish on and off? Not us, that’s for sure! We would be seriously happy if they, (and by they we mean the beauty gods), would bring back peel-off nail polish and save us valuable hours spent chipping it off at our desks... And all those hours and dollars in the nail salon!

So peel-off nail polish may not be making a come back, but we’re loving new Australian nail polish brand Say It With Polish, for great colours and cute customisable bottles.

Matte skin

Now, we love the dewy look as much as the next person, but there’s a very fine line between dewy and, er, shiny... And it’s not all that easy to get it right. We long for the days when we could just whack on our pressed powder and go. Bring back matte skin and be done with it, we say!

For that matte skin look, without the extra colour, go for the Bareminerals Mineral Veil available from Mecca Cosmetica and Mecca Maxima Sydney wide.

Lip liner

Okay, so we’re not talking about the bold, two-tone look favoured by 90s girl bands, we’re talking about the kind that matches the colour of your actual lipstick, preventing it smudging and giving the illusion of plumped up lips without the surgery: Think Kylie Jenners mega lips as of late. It’s all achieved by some ‘clever’ lip lining, you guys!

Get your lip liner on with Becca’s nude lip liner pencil. Available online.

Light eye shadow

Not only does a light hue on your eyes make your eyes look bigger (see ya later, smokey eyes!), it makes you look far more awake and alert. Win! Perfect for those days when getting out of bed is a struggle. Like a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or, you know, Friday too.

We love LUMA Cosmetics eye shadow duos are long lasting and come in complementary colours (we are particularly crushing on the fawn/taupe duo at the moment).
