When winter coats are out, we’d all rather spend our time in… The cosiest bars for winter, that is!

We’ve zeroed in on plush booths, fiery cocktails, and couches to curl up on. Hunker down at Sydney’s best cosy bars for winter hibernation.

Small Bar

This Sydney Small Bar institution has spread into Kirribilli, with plenty of piping hot crispiness to cosy up to—from arancini to prosciutto and blue cheese croquettes. Balance it all out with one of the rotating craft beers, or warm yourself up even more with a cocktail or a glass of their deliciously cosy mulled wine.

The Hayberry

Crows Nest

Shuffle into one of The Hayberry’s booths for one of the rotating craft beers and some serious comfort food. Stow away your mittens for some perfect buffalo wings sporting Frank’s Red Hot sauce. If that’s not enough heat for you, wash it down with the spicy rimmed Mexican, featuring jalapeno-infused tequila.

Surry Hills

Soft couches, laid-back live music, plush red curtains—you can’t get much cosier than that! Curl up with one of Low302's cocktails and make yourself feel at home in this small bar in Surry Hills with a big drink list, that’s open until 2am in the morning.

Descend the stairs and embrace the cosies and cocktails at Grandma’s. The Treacle comes in three options—we’ll take “sh*t hot”—or if you want to kindle a date, try the flamin’ galah for two, with rum, berries, apple and guava.

As its name suggests, you’ll need to snuggle up at Corridor. We’re convinced the heating is half supplied by your fellow drinkers. Fortunately there are a few nooks upstairs once you’ve obtained your drink—don’t forget the cheesy bacon potato skins!

Miss Peaches

Shotgun the couches as you enter or grab a cushy booth for a casual, cosy time. If you want to get super toasty with your plus-one, warm up with a bit of a swing on the dance floor. Then dip into one of Miss Peaches’ sweet pies—cosy comfort food at its best!

Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern

Grab a leather booth in this basement bar and get ready to fire up on whiskey, curious cocktails that’ll hark back to your childhood, and some good old Aussie beers. For comfort food, Ramblin’ Rascal also serves Mary’s burgers too.

The Swinging Cat

Head below ground at this New Orleans inspired bar in Sydney’s CBD. The Swinging Cat is full of comfy sofas, warming cocktails, and a grand piano because, why not? Order a few of the super strong Hurricanes and you’ll be feeling as toasty as a New Orleans summer in no time.
