In the up-and-coming hub of Kirribilli lies a small gem of a bar that might just be our new favourite small bar on Sydney’s north side. Appropriately called Small Bar & Kitchen Kirribilli, this bar is a homely, intimate kind of place where you come for a nibble and stay the whole night, or come for a glass of wine and end up getting a bottle. To put it simply— it’s warm, friendly, and the perfect place for a date, a catch up with friends or a (not-so) classy wine with Mum.
Small plates are perfect for the greedy guts who want to try a little bit of everything delicious (guilty, your honour) and the tapas menu at Small Bar & Kitchen Kirribilli certainly does not disappoint. The oh-so-crunchy arancini is a dream, filled with pumpkin, pine nuts, mozzarella and aioli for the cheesy, carby and slathered-in-aioli experience we like to call any given Tuesday night.
For the sea-foodies, the seared scallops are super juicy and seared to perfection, while the kingfish ceviche with soy, wasabi and baby herbs is perfectly fresh, vibrant and will make your taste buds sing to the food gods, praising them for making ceviche a thing.
No tapas meal is complete without a round of croquettes, so you will be very pleased when a pile of the prosciutto and blue cheese variety land on your table, ready to satisfy your tummy and burn your mouth with the molten insides that you just can’t wait to cool down (worth it).
All this eating needs to be accompanied with a bit of drinking (duh), so there’s a rotating craft beer menu for lovers of ale, and a rotating cocktail list for lovers of fun times and delicious libations. And the wine list at Small Bar & Kitchen Kirribilli has something for everyone. Australian wines take centre stage, while a few European and South American favourites play a very well received support act that certainly gets the crowd pumping (or was that just us?). The super friendly staff are always keen to lend a helping hand if you can’t quite remember if you love or hate shiraz… Or was that merlot?
Lucky for us, Small Bar & Kitchen Kirribilli is open for lunch and dinner, as well as breakfast on weekends, so there is plenty of opportunity to check out this wonderfully delicious bar and restaurant in Sydney. BRB, going to Kirribilli for a wine and some tapas. See you there?
