If you’re anything like us, then at the start of 2019 you probably made some career-based new year’s resolutions that, well, have not yet come to fruition. Fortunately, there’s an easy way you can reignite that motivation. Whether you’re in need of some up-to-date tech design lessons, some creative influencing, or you just need to get into the right headspace to smash some career goals, then one of these conferences could be the answer.

No matter what part of the world you’re in, chances are there’s probably a career-based conference happening near you. But we’ve done some of the hard work and narrowed it down to six of the best conferences and creative festivals happening across the globe this year.

Eeeeetscon | Los Angeles

Food lovers, listen up, because this one’s for you. This food festival was built in the spirit of a typical music festival, except instead of Beyoncé and Ariana Grande, restaurants are the headliners. The two-day event will feature a highly curated selection of local and international chefs and restaurants, who will be serving up culinary creations beyond your wildest dreams. There’ll be live performances and cooking demonstrations, panel discussions and workshops from industry pioneers, and most importantly, lots of amazing food. Whether its world-famous pizza, smokey BBQ, mind-blowing tacos or handmade ice cream, you’ll find it all here. Just scrolling through the food line-up is enough to make one drool on their keyboard. Oh, and there’s a pretty epic line-up of guest speakers too, including Cameron Diaz, Glee star Darren Criss, Grammy nominated musician Mayer Hawthorne, and co-founder of Delicious Pizza Rock Ross, plus heaps more. And like any good festival, there’ll also be a number of musicians providing the entertainment, including Young & Sick and Evan Giia. If you like food, music, good times, or all of the above, then this is the event for you. The best part? You can call it a work trip.

Where: 3021 Airport Ave, Santa Monica, CA

Semi-Permanent | Sydney

With over 17 years of creative festival experience under their belt, the folks behind Semi-Permanent know how to put on a good show. Their three-day schedule is jam packed with talks, panels, workshops, exhibitions, parties, screenings and more, and every year they manage to piece together an epic selection of speakers. The theme for 2019 is ‘Truth’, with panel discussions focusing on how to wield it, those who blur it, and whether it’s a necessary ingredient on the path to success. Speakers include artist CJ Hendry, Emmy-award-winning filmmaker Raoul Marks, Deus Ex Machina founder Carby Tuckwell, Sonos Global Creative Director Michael Leon and pro surfer Keala Kennelly. There’ll also be masterclasses and workshops on everything from artificial intelligence to learning the hands-on creative processes of Wes Anderson’s designer Erica Dorn. There’s quite literally something for everyone, no matter what field you’re in. So prepare to be inspired.

This visually stunning three-day festival is well worth a trip to Belgium, not only for the Instagram opportunities (it’s literally held in a castle), but for the amount of invaluable knowledge you’ll pick up. Aside from their jam-packed program of talks and workshops across three stages, they also put on an impressive night market designed to ignite the senses. There will be arcade games, food courts, craft beers and cocktails, flea markets and even tattoo studios all surrounded by a lush green setting. During the day, you can be inspired by presentations from original and quirky artists from around the globe, including photographers, filmmakers, art directors, graphic designers, and even notable photography director Nicolai Niermann (who has worked with Beyonce on multiple occasions and is the mastermind behind the iconic music video for Apes**t, which was shot in the Louvre). So, during the day you’ll be able to network with the biggest names in the creative industry, and during the evenings you’ll be able to stroll the night markets and party with them. Now that’s how you do a conference.
