If you’re anything like us, keeping track of all the fab new openings on the Gold Coast can be a full-time job. Don’t know where to start?
Well, it’s officially hump day which means the weekend is just around the corner (hurrah!), so we’re helping you out with a little itinerary of eight awesome new spots to hit this weekend. Which ones will you choose?
Eddie’s Grub House
Grungy dive bar, Eddie’s Grub House opened in January and has since been keeping a loyal following of southern Gold Coasters watered and amused to the sounds of blues, rock ‘n’ roll, and vinyl DJs. Dimly lit for maximum moodiness, Eddie’s has a fully-loaded back bar, and craft beer from Stone & Wood and Brooklyn Brewery on tap. Swing in for some rowdy convo over pub grub like burgers, fried chicken, spicy jalapenos, and onion rings… knocked back with a stiff whiskey, naturally.
Where: 171 Griffith Street, Coolangatta
Weekend road trip anyone? This darling café recently opened its doors in Casuarina and the locals are rejoicing, as are we! If you want to get in on the action take a quick jaunt south across the border; snuggle into booths among lush greenery, and head straight for Black Oak’s drool-worthy signature berry crumble pancakes, or a long lazy lunch that starts with Sydney rock oysters and ends with a bottle of chilled rose. Bliss.
Where: 130/685—707 Casuarina Way, Casuarina, NSW
Travel to Europe or the Americas in snow season, and you’ll know there’s one thing better than skiing, and that’s après! So, we might be a decade or two behind the times, but now we have our very own post-sport sesh, Après Surf. Make this Mermaid Beach watering hole your new local—post-surf, post-work, whatevs. Just get down and show the boys your support!
Where: 2376 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach
Drive-thru coffee that doesn’t suck? It’s a rarity on the Gold Coast, but Arundel just scored with Blackboard’s epic brews now pouring at this brand new drive-thru or drop-in espresso bar, ShakerMaker Coffee. Serving hot coffee and cold caffeinated brews, together with Blackboard’s legendary doughnuts and injectables, and toasties on sourdough from Panya Artisan Bakery, you’ll find them open daily from 5am—5pm.
Where: 117a Arundel Drive, Arundel
Paradox Kitchen and Bar
Everyone’s favourite brunching joint in Surfers Paradise has just recently begun holding its doors open for dinner, Thursday to Saturday nights. Yep, that means you can now devour their gorgeous house-roasted brews in the form of a boozy espresso martini. We’ll take two please! Paired with share-worthy tapas plates and served within the contemporary confines of Paradox’s warehouse-style dining room, get in pronto and experience this new contender among the best restaurants on the Gold Coast.

Aloha Bar and Dining
If you’ve not yet trundled down the back alleyway and through the hidden door into Aloha Bar and Dining, take a long hard look at yourself! Not only is the fit-out a sensational mix of tiki theming and nautical paraphernalia, the crowd is cool, the tropical vibe is funky, and guest DJs are spinning most weekends. Plus, the guys here take their cocktails very seriously and the menu—designed by the maestros at Etsu—is loaded with steamed baskets of dumplings, coconut steamed barramundi, and our fave, the Spicy Tuna Poke. Remember, it’s a pop-up bar and won’t around forever, so drag your feet and you’ll miss out. This weekend peeps, make it happen!
Where: 18 Main Place, Broadbeach
Hatch and Co.
Broadbeach has some exciting new ventures coming down the pipeline (stayed tuned here, folks!), including recently opened Hatch and Co. Modelled after their popular Brisvegas eateries, Hatch & Co. exemplifies casual dining—a natural light-filled space featuring funky wood and greenery walls, Scandinavian retro-style seating, and industrial finishings; with a focus on family share-style dining including heaping platters of hot roasts, lamb and pork shoulders, and a host of tasty sides. Friday post-work drinks, perhaps?
Where: 75 Surf Parade, Broadbeach
Garden Kitchen and Bar
Another stellar addition to the best restaurants on the Gold Coast, if you’ve not visited Jupiters for donkey’s years… let Garden Kitchen and Bar be your magnet. Following a monster makeover, including the most striking vertical garden wall on the Coast and a breezy, sun-drenched patio perfect for a looonnggg Sunday brunch… hit it up this weekend and get excited about big things still to come.
